"V for Vendetta is that rare thing amongst big budget Hollywood films – a surprise. I came to it expecting a run of the mill action film with a little bit of politics thrown in, but found something more complex and thought-provoking. The film is set in a futuristic Britain under the control of a fascist, manipulative government. The media are puppets of that government, blaming Britain’s problems on homosexuals, immigrants and Muslims and spreading misinformation. The people seem powerless and subdued and isolated from the rest of the world. Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) is walking the streets one night when she is attacked by government thugs for being out after curfew. She is saved in true swashbuckling fashion by a masked figure, styling himself after Guy Fawkes (Hugo Weaving) who stuns her and the government by blowing up the Old Bailey whilst he stands on a rooftop “conducting” the explosions. “V” is an interesting figure with mixed motivati ... "People think that I hate popular movies because I hate Boondock Saints, Garden State, and Napoleon Dynamite. But let's get it straight, I hate bad movies, not popular movies. V for Vendetta shows that sometimes popular movies can be good. (I'm just kidding, I love popular movies like Ace Ventura, Star Wars Episode III, The Royal Tenembaums, Moulin Rouge, The Matrix and many others). And I don't think that anyone should be surprised that I truly enjoy V for Vendetta (I mean I was written by the Wachowski brothers, who wrote and directed The Matrix, and everyone who knows me should know that I really love The Matrix). Not only is V for Vendetta an entertaining, fun movie, it also says something (and it says it in such a sweet way).

"Now that we’re sure there’s an Avengers movie on the way, and that it will be tied into the movies Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Ant-Man and Captain America (full title: The First Avenger: Captain America), it’s time to begin speculating on what other characters will be cast to fill out the team’s roster. In addition to the four characters starring in their own preceding titles, as well as cameo-man Nick Fury, there’s a good chance we’ll see Vision and Black Widow rounding out an even six team members. Yet I speculate on the basis that I haven’t picked up an issue of any Avengers title in at least a decade. Still, I’m excited about the film and have hopes of seeing at least one of my favorite, deserving superheroes end up on the big screen in The Avengers since none of them will likely get their own movie. Plus, a bunch of them allow for more Marvel movie tie-ins. So, I ask that Marvel Studios feature a lucky seven teammates and showcase "

"The Dark Knight is hands down the best Batman movie yet, but has Christopher Nolan painted himself into a corner by using up the only viable Batman villains? Most of the Batman villains left are either too campy (the Penguin, the Ventriloquist), depend too much on flexible comic book logic (Clayface, Killer Croc), or are just watered-down versions of the Joker (the Riddler, the Mad Hatter). Tim Burton’s Batman featured The Joker (Jack Nicholson) for good reason. The Clown Prince of Crime, always Batman’s most threatening foe, represents (among many things) an unwillingness to take human life seriously. In that moral void his vibrant personality explodes like a fireworks display of mania, menace, and eccentricity. The Joker is the calling card of chaos and evil at its sexiest. Batman isn’t the reason we watch Batman over and over again, the Joker is. Of course Michael Keaton brings gravitas to Batman, but let’s face it–as sweet as Batman is, he’s jus "

"For some reason I read Alan Moore's graphic novel V for Vendetta when I was in middle school. I remember thinking that it was somewhat simplistic but had some effective moments. At the time, I found the personal journey that Evey, the female protagonist (played in the movie by Natalie Portman) takes to be more moving that any of the polticial content. Both novel and film have similer plotlines. Some time in the future, the United States ceases to be a superpower and the other countries in the world are left alone. Great Britain suffers from a plauge and elects a facist leader, Adam Sutler (John Hurt), who quickly consolidates all power. Anyone disagreeing with the goverment is branded a criminal. An anonymous terrorist/freedom fighter/superhero who calls himself V (Hugo Weaving, both voice and body) sets off to begin a new revolution and bring democracy back to England. Along the way he begins an odd relationship with Evey, a young woman who works in the TV industry. Direct ... "

"I simply loved this movie it takes a very different take on the average action movie. It makes you care and love the charicters and makes you think that they are real. It opens with a you getting a fell of the charicters and what the world has turned in to. the world is a world of darkness and a goverment that rules by fear and when things seem to be at their worst is when a man who only named as V apears and begins to give the citizens of this twisted world hope. I dont want to give a way the ending for any one who hasent seen it but this movie has every thing Drama, action, and comedy. this is a more intelligent movie then some of the trash out their. If you havent seen it then you should go rent a copy and wach it and if you like it then go buy a copy. The movie is a little slow and you have to pay attention to the story but it is a excilent movie and I would recomend it to anyone. "

"By Tricia Olszewski V for Vendetta is set in a futuristic Great Britain, but make no mistake: The themes of lies, loss of liberties, and spin control that dominate this adaptation of Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s graphic novel have everything to do with red-statism run amok. The antihero of the story, a former prisoner simply named V, is out to change the U.K.’s now-fascist government, which posts signs around London that read, “Strength through unity, unity through faith.” The administration preapproves television scripts, too, and maintains a “vault of objectionable materials.” It even denies its citizens butter, because...because it’s for their own good. So you want to root for this radical—after all, he’s introduced saving a young miss who’s out after curfew from a team of horny patrolmen. But then V says, “Blowing up a building can change the world,” and suddenly you don’t know whose side you’ ... "
