10 Sexiest Non-Sex Scenes

[Be the first to tell us!]
"One of the most popular sex scenes of all time is the kitchen scene from the 1981 version of The Postman Always Rings Twice. But many people find the more implicit parts of the 1946 version to be sexier. These people include the earlier film’s female lead, Lana Turner, who wrote in her autobiography, “[The makers of the 1981 film] didn’t have to worry about the censors. I’d had to project a rather intense sexual presence, but always with my clothes on. I was amused to read that [NY Times film critic] Vincent Canby considered the remake a pale, rather sexless imitation of my version.” Yes, a film with neither nudity nor simulated lovemaking can be quite sexy, likely sexier than an explicit remake, for innuendo and other teasing maneuvers around either the Hays Code or the MPAA ratings board’s restrictions are far more tantalizing than any bare and balls-out displays of graphic sex common in movies today. "Unemployment is about to get even worse now that Citigroup has announced it will cut 52,000 jobs early next year. And falsely reported news of a killing in Santa Clara, California (the shooter was fired, not laid off) only adds to the bleak atmosphere surrounding the already upsetting job market. But while desperate times may lead to desperate measures, it’s vital for us to remember what we learned from the films of the 1930s, when the Great Depression caused a nearly 25% rate of unemployment (we’re currently at 6.5%). Hopeful stories of upward mobility and implausible solutions were popular at the time, though many of them had downsides or inspired the desire for unlikely prospects. Still, there was some guidance to be found buried within the fantasies of Hollywood, and SpoutBlog has compiled this handy list to help you make the right choices during your current or imminent joblessness.

"Das Fidele Gefängnis (The Merry Jail) This was on the Criterion Collection release of Trouble in Paradise that I rented. It's an earlier silent film that Lubitsch made in Germany, and I actually preferred it to the primary movie on disc! Here we also see Lubitsch the actor as well as a wonderful comedic part from the legendary Emil Jannings as a drunk jailer. I found it to just be a lot more fun and goofy than the other film which seems to be trying for some kind of sophisticated comedy that was a bit more difficult for me to enjoy. You also get a glimpse of some jail cell wall graffiti that rivals some of what you see in Down By Law. I'm mesmerized by jail cell wall graffiti. Anyone know of any other places to see some? Rating: 8/10 "

"This blog entry is part of my “movie year countdown”. To read more about that check out my first Spout filmblog entry. Trouble in Paradise I heard a lot of people praising this as a perfect film. Every shot is perfect. Every line of dialogue. It's supposed to be the greatest romantic comedy of all time. Certainly the epitome of the classic romantic comedy and a perfect example of the Lubitch touch. I can see why people think it's so well constructed, but to me there is no romance in it. Apparently a lot of people see romance in lavish living and swindlers who pose as high society. I find these characters rather vapid and self absorbed in a way that is far from charming. Some of them are dumb and dopey, and it's fun to laugh at them. But I'm not swayed by the romance of the main characters just because they are more skillful. I enjoyed it, but was disappointed due to the reputation. Rating: 7/10 "

"Here’s the dilemma. I have a list of well over three thousand movies I want to see saved on IMDB. I have a subscription to Netflix and recently every time I return a DVD it has been an extremely arduous task to make the decision as to which movie I should see next. In an effort to narrow down my choices and make the process of choosing slightly less overwhelming I have devised a system, almost a bit of a game for me. Here’s how it goes. For my first film selection, I have narrowed the options down to only films that were released in the year 2006. Then after I have watched that movie, my next selection would have to be a film released in 2005. Then I would see a film from 2004, then 2003, etc. The process of deciding is still laborious, but actually quite a bit more exciting. (I'm going by IMDB as my source for release years)I have already been making a list and have also already begun watching the films. I decided this might be a good time to start fooling ... "
