"I’ve already written about trailers for each of these films, and I didn’t really want to revisit either one. Even if they did have second trailers released — as most movies do — it’s typically hard for me to find the new versions in a format that I can embed here (I guess I got lucky with The Happening video above). But both of these movies have special marketing circumstances regarding their new, second trailers, that I figured they were worth noting. The new trailer for The Happening, unlike the one I wrote about previously, seems more interested in exploiting the 9/11 and terrorist-threat angle. As if we hadn’t already guessed that Shyamalan was dealing with that kind of subject matter. Of course, the first trailer was just fine at selling the movie as a sci-fi/horror thriller, which I imagine is much more appealing to a wide audience than anything relating to 9/11. Still, I kind of understand why they decided to go this route, as well. The first trailer just made the movie look ... " [More]

"Ok, truthfully I don't really know of a horror movie most grandmothers enjoy, but the one sitting next to me at the advanced screening I attended tonight could only make it through half of Transmission II. Sorry grandma, at least you didn't have to ask for your money back. The Signal is filled with gruesome bloody violence, and I share her sentiment in deciding to bail at the point that she did, though, having stuck with it to the end I believe the filmmakers pulled off the mayhem well enough for those with the stomach to take it. The Signal is written, directed, shot, and edited by three filmmakers. Each take an equal timed Act in the film aptly titled the 'Transmission.' Each Transmission is seen through the eyes of a different main character. Transmission I sets up the story and the characters of Mya and Ben in the city of Terminus, the end of the line. An eerie visual and audio transmission has replaced tv and cell phone signals. As we follow Mya, it becomes inc ... " [More]

"I was in New York with my my girlfriend, my sister and her husband, and my cousin and his fiance. My brother-in-law is the editor of Paste Magazine who was sponsoring a film festival in New York and got us all free tickets. I am the kind of narrow minded person who does not like things that are not the "norm" and only went because it was free. The movie played was "The Signal", and it opened my eyes. I love movies, but have always just watched what Hollywood told me to watch and chose not to give indy films a chance, but when I saw this film, everything changed. The 3 directors and geniuses behind the film, as well as the actors, spoke after the film finished and it made the entire experience even better. I still do not understand how this movie was not a summer blockbuster. If it could entertain someone like me, who saw Rocky Balboa and Live Free of Die Hard just because, then it will entertain the rest of them. I will continue to expand my movie experiences a ...
