"5:54 - Here comes director James McTeague, Naomi Harris, and… “arch rival of Stephen Colbert….RAIN!” “Wow, it’s like mini-Twilight” someone says behind us when people start screaming for Rain. 5:51 - Now they’re on to Ninja Assassin, and when Joel Silver says the name “Rain” people go nuts. Although not quite the level of Twilight nuts that we witnessed earlier. Here’s a clip that Silver tells us is “Just for Comic-Con, so lets not talk about it to anyone else.” “Raised to be a warrior…Trained to be a killer.” Scenes of kids training, teenagers training, adults shedding tons of blood with knives. This movie is all done in red and black, even with red and black washing machines in a laundromat scene. Someone cue the Les Miserables soundtrack. Ninjas, swords, explosions, car chases… I don’t really know what this is about, but there’s a lot of screaming and flying blood. The ninja chucks a Chinese star at the screen, which turns into a little embellish between the words Ninja and Assa ... " [More]

"I thought that The Reaping was a good movie. I heard that Roeper and some guest on his show gave it two thumbs down so now I think they're dumb. This movie was interesting and really had me guessing. It wasn't like the most intricate mystery movie but I did not expect it to go the way it did. It was not really scarey like horror movie scarey but it did make me jump a few times which is what I think they were going for. It was pretty intense and definitley had my attention. I was thoroughly entertained and would recommend this movie. " [More]

"Released: April 5, 2007Director: Stephen Hopkins*****Sometimes, an Oscar winner headlining a B-movie is a good thing. The personae lends credibility to the production, allowing the audience a certain amount of leeway in enjoying a middling concept. Such is the case with The Reaping, a vehicle for Hilary Swank as a professor who debunks supposed Biblical miracles using science. It is because of Swank (and, to a lesser extent, and co-stars David Morrissey and Idris Elba) that the films manages to be anything but laughable. It's not without it's perks, though. The first 30 to 45 minutes stand up rather well as an unconventional who-dun-it, giving us a sense of small town, Southern folk. Even the locations and sets turn out to be well designed and thought out. Shot in location in Louisiana, everything feels authentic to the setting, allowing us to become almost comfortable here. I'd even go on to say the first half-The Reaping only runs 99 minutes-is fairly competent storytelli ... " [More]

"As a lot of you know, I'm not the best writer when it comes to writing Reviews, but I just like to say what I feel. I think the Reaping was a really good movie. I think it could have been better but I really enjoyed it. It had a pretty good story and a nice unexpected ending. I thought Hillary Swank did a great job (of course she usually always does even in her days of Sometimes they come Back Again) she's a great actor. I probably wouldn't characterize this as a horror movie, more like a mystery, but it had a lot of suspense and a creepy little girl (and scary religious people in a way). It kept me interested through the movie to see what was going to happen next... " [More]

"Well, I really wanted to see The Reaping because I love rivers of blood and biblical plagues. And Hilary Swank ("P.S. I Love You"). And the film had all three of those things. Sometimes atmospherically creepy and sometimes jump scary, the plot was just a bit too thin. Swank plays a professor who specializes in debunking religious mysteries. She's called in to investigate what seems to be a series of biblical plagues affecting a small town. She has a past of a terrible event where she lost her faith. Stephen Rea ("Stuck") is a priest and former friend who tires to warn her she's in danger. Though some of this is pretty cool, I could see where it was going before it went there. For Christmas, my husband got me Masters of Horror: Joe Dante - The Screwfly Solution as a companion piece to Season 3 of 90210, both staring the fabulous Jason Priestley ("Made in Brooklyn"). I had not watched any of the Masters of Horror series before, and so I wasn't ... " [More]
