    "Sometimes I really wish David Bordwell’s blog permitted comments. Mostly it’s better that it doesn’t, but the man’s last post has made me want to discuss the art of movie titles for a whole week now. And it didn’t help that coinciding in time with Bordwell’s post was another one of those sidebars in Entertainment Weekly pointing out some new movies with misleading titles. Yes, Lakeview Terrace does sound like a period romance, as do many other badly titled films (Elizabethtown and Wicker Park come to mind).     "Based on a true story of some Massachusetts fisherman who get caught at sea in the middle of one heck of a storm.Clooney and Marky Mark (without The Funky Bunch) prove to be pretty darn good actors, and they have an underappreciated but extremely talented supporting cast. The finale is not your typical Hollywood happy ending, which really adds to the gravitas of this movie.     "The Perfect Storm is based on a real life weather tragedy and it has five well-known actors in it, so I was surprised to see the most hokey, schmaltzy, jingoistic, piece of garbage, etc. But the worst was the soaring strings in the sound track whenever anyone opened a door, including the door to the fishermen’s bar. This has lingered in my mind for about three years as a touchstone example of a poor movie. " [More]
