Directed by Marquise Lepage
Alice Guy-Blache was one of the unsung innovators of cinema. She was not only the first female filmmaker, she was arguably the first to develop the idea of narrative. During her career, Guy-Blache made well over 300 films. Regrettably, most have been lost and her name and contribution were forgotten until the latter 20th century. She was one of the first to work with color and also worked with synchronized sound before 1910, making prototype music videos. This fascinating Canadian documentary chronicles her remarkable life beginning when she obtained her first job as a secretary at France's Gaumont Studios and ending with her receiving the French Legion of Honor 31 years after she retired. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
