"A great war movie excellently adapted from Alistair McLeans novel of the same name. The plot is as usual - British Commandos are sent as saboteurs to eliminate some guns that are targeting British ships in the Mediterranean. It is vital that the Commandos succeed in misleading the Jerries that they plan to evacuate the British troops on Crete after they destroy these guns and the raid itself is a ploy to ensure that the Germans are diverted in attention to enable the Royal Navy to undertake its task. The casting of Gregory Peck as a British officer is a little hard to swallow but one must admit that he lives up to the task. David Niven as the Professor turned sabotage expert is as usual great and Anthony Quayle is quintessentially the stiff upper lip English officer to the core. Alltogether the movie is a War classic Krishna Kumar Menon Chennai(Madras), India. " [More]

"the guns of navarone is one of the best war movies i've ever seen. gregory peck, anthony quinn, david niven are terrific. suspense, action, james darren's singing, solid acting, successful mission through many hazards. i'm not a fan of wars; but this film is great. " [More]

"In Clive James recent book Cultural Amnesia; he writes about people who matter, most of them though, I am very sad and embarrassed to say, I never heard of ( for that matter, I just noticed that I had been reading his works for years in the New Yorker, but never noticed the ‘by-line’ until the other day ) but well I should have. The book is set up in alphabetical order and its subjects include such persons as Louis Armstrong, Dick Cavett, Miles Davis, Sergei Diaghilev, Francois Furet, Chris Marker, Michael Mann, Thomas Mann, Erik Satie, Margaret Thatcher, Isoroku Yamamoto, Aleksandr Zinoviev, and many others. Each person’s section begins with a brief biographical introduction followed by an essay of sorts on that particular person. The biographical information is terse and leaves a feeling of wanting to know much more of the person. The essays provide the most interest, relating the person in question with all sorts of other persons, other arts, and simple, of ... " [More]

"I saw this film for the first time in about 1970 when I was in fifth grade and my friend and I went to see it at our Junior High auditorium. It was being shown as part of a fund raiser. I was completely taken by the film and felt like I was right there with the team sent to take out the guns in the cliffs of Navarone. Great acting, great storyline, great directing...all the ingredients for a fantastic movie. Needless to say, it is one of my all-time favorites and one which I own. I am also proud to say my son loves it too! " [More]
