"This movie captured the mystical ghosts and aromas of New Orleans. The set designer's eye was accurate in their choses of colors, textures, and shapes of the period. The customes were past beautiful and served to conpliment each actress's personaility. Memories I thought I had forgotten were vividly displayed before me as one revisiting their childhood.The director made this city come alive for me even if from a different century. That is the thing that makes New Orleans what it is. No matter what century it may be this city will forever be frozen in time. The flavors, old buildings, colors and the people never change.James Earl Jones's narrative I found historical and chilling. The idea of pedalling your child's flesh for her survival sicken me and at the same time was believeable. The grand style of the balls to show off the young girls for these white men's consideration was appalling and degrading according to today's standards. Etta Kit's perform ... "
