Directed by Alex Proyas
Based on the graphic novel by James O'Barr, this fantasy follows Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), a rock musician who is murdered along with his fiancée Shelly (Sofia Shinas) by a group of marauding thugs who terrorize the decaying city in which they live. One year to the day after his death (which happens to be Devil's Night), a mystical crow appears at Eric's grave; Eric rises from the dead and, with the bird as his guide, goes on a mission to avenge himself against Top Dollar (Michael Wincott), the leader of the gang who killed him. Star Brandon Lee was killed while filming a scene in which he was shot with a shell from an improperly cleaned gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks. Like his father, martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, Brandon was fated to enjoy his greatest popular success after his premature death. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"This is the only picture that captures the essence of the dark character that the Crow is. Greatly portrayed by the defunct Brandon Lee who went down in mysterious circunstances. Along with the acting of Iggy Pop and music from the likes of NIN, this is one that YOU HAVE TO HAVE in your collection " [More]

"I am not a reader of the comic that the film is based on but I have to say that I was blown away by this movie. The theme is timeless and the characters are larger than life. Alex Proyas creates a beautiful and enchanting world and the action is in your face and provacitive. People may no this film from the untimely death of its star son of marshall artist Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee is haunting as the main hero of the piece and like Heath Ledger in this years Dark Knight the tragedy surrounding h " [More]

"[quote user="mercurial"] M is probably the film that stands out as one of the great Expressionist films made. It's such a creative, thrilling film; something which surprised me when I first saw it years ago as I hadn't seen too many films pre-1950 and those that I had I couldn't really get a feeling for. Hitchcock utilized Expressionist techniques in pretty much all of his films: [More]

is neutral about it.
This dark romantic fantasy of revenge from beyond the grave has a blackly funereal beauty which makes up for some of its sillier elements. The Gothic-style production design and an achingly poetic performance from the late Brandon Lee should make it a favorite among certain types of young people, while action fans should appreciate the moments of bone-crunching violence and a great villainous turn by Michael Wincott. An unexpected treat from promising director Alex Proyas, The Crow was followed by a wretched sequel. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
