"If there’s one thing I relate to on the big screen, it’s the depiction of fraternal relationships. I’m the middle of three brothers (excluding the half-brother I only knew as a toddler and the former stepbrother I only knew briefly as an adult), and at different points in my life I’ve either hated them or considered them my best friends. So, yeah, I can’t wait to see Step Brothers, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as new siblings who go from being enemies to BFFs when forced to live together. Choosing a handful of favorite movies about brotherhood is really tough. After all, tales of brothers go all the way back to almost the beginning, with the story of Cain and Abel. And a number of favorites can’t exactly be discussed, because the revelation of brothers, especially twin brothers, is often the surprise twist in films. So, before you start naming a thousand other films about brothers that I’ve forgotten (such as The Brothers McMullen and Legends of the Fall), keep in mind ... " [More]

I’m not the only one annoyed by all the Oscar buzz. Terry Gilliam, who directed Ledger in The Brothers Grimm and the upcoming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, is ca " [More]

"I love Terry Gilliam, but as he says at the beginning of his audio commentary on this DVD, he didn't care for the script, and I think it shows - there's little of his imaginative streak running through this film. There are a few scattered moments of inspired Gilliam-isms (most of Peter Stormare's performance, for example), but there's so few and far between, I found myself falling asleep at the exact same spot on three different viewings. Pity...I expected more. " [More]

"I wanted to like this movie; I really did. But, like Van Helsing, the movie just didn't know what is was. Was it an action movie? A comedy? A buddy movie? There wasn't enough to tie together several interesting elements. What a waste. Frankly, I would have preferred a movie that was about the fairy tales that the Grimm Brothers eventually wrote (perhaps showing those tales in their original, more adult versions before being sanitized by the Grimms for children).
