'The Beverages' tells the story of a feeble two man band of same name and a filmmaker, Monty Zuchard, who has set out to exploit their lack of talent. The story begins as a 'how-to' on what not to be if you strive to be a musician. By showing off the bands lack of focus, drive and ability Monty starts to paint a vivid picture of what exactly one should avoid if they consider themselves to be an 'artist'. That is until the Beverages, after experiencing a myriad of failures and let-downs, become more dedicated and more original. As a result, they throw Monty's documentary into uncharted waters filled with street performances, open mic action and sleazy music video tycoons.
'The Beverages' is a cerebral tale filled with independent music and slapstick comedy. It is reminiscent of 'The Office' as far as style and 'This is Spinal Tap' as far as satire. The message is ultimately that of hope and determination disguised behind silly antics and petty betrayals. Monty learns a number of lessons along the way and in a documentary style format, tries to impart them to you, the viewer. Even when the lessons come at his expense. 'The Beverages' is an original take on the classic music mockumentary and should be not be missed.
