"(photo: La Jetée, Hellboy II: The Golden Army) Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army hits theaters this Friday. Del Toro is a rare filmmaker who, despite his unique vision, often works on projects based on material from an outside source (Pan’s Labyrinth being a notable exception). Assuming all the legal issues get ironed out, he’ll next direct a two part film adaptation of Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the most prestigious property to date to get the del Toro treatment. "indieWIRE points to the 17-page PDF detailing the 349 films that will unspool at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival. New details just announced today include a special screening of Grand Illusion presented by Peter Bogdanovich, who will in turn be presented an award for his film preservation efforts; Jason Reitman’s Juno, scripted by blogger Diablo Cody; and several Reel to Reel program additions, including a Joy Division doc by Grant Gee and a Lou Reed doc by Julian Schnabel. "This movie was so awesome back when it first came out, and I'll still play my Director's Cut version of it every once in a while because John Leguizamo was so cool as an ugly, little clown and I just love Spawn's cape. Yep, it's all about the cape. I actually tried watching that whole three part animated feature, but I only got half-way through the second one before giving up because I wasn't even sleepy, yet I was dozing. My husband fell asleep during the first part. LOL "
