Directed by James Wan
The directorial debut from filmmaker James Wan, this psychological thriller comes from the first screenplay by actor Leigh Whannell, who also stars. Whannell plays Adam, one of two men chained up in a mysterious chamber. The other, Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes), like Adam, has no idea how either of them got there. Neither of them are led to feel optimistic by the man lying between them dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Together, Adam and Dr. Gordon attempt to piece together what has happened to them and who the sadistic madman behind their imprisonment is. Also starring Danny Glover and Monica Potter, Saw premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

"Finally watched this one to see what the fuss was about. While I understand why viewers feel compelled to watch 5 installments of this series, it's not for me. I'd much rather catch up on any of my "must-see" lists or, if it's horror I need to stick w " [More]

"When I think about kidnapping films the first thing that comes to mind is "It puts the lotion in the basket." The Silence of the Lambs has that rare ability to give me chills each time I watch it and I love it for that. I think a lot of people also became weary of helping others after Buffalo Bill feigned an injury in order to kidnap his prey in the film. The thought of being trapped in a well and starved so " [More]

"Well, one of my favorites has to be Dogville and the relentless imprisonment that Nicole Kidman's character must endure. However, not too many people tend to like that film. The Matrix et al is pretty much about the human race trying to escape being imprisoned. Similarly, [More]
