"The Vicious Kind, a love triangle drama starring Adam Scott and Brittany Snow, directed by Lee Toland Krieger and executive produced by Neil LaBute, is described in the always remarkable Sundance catalogue as “a glimpse into the soul of a damaged man whose obstinate defense mechanisms are laid bare by his fractured relationships.” We subjected Krieger to the 4 Questions We Ask Everyone, and he divulged about his unusual choice of film stock and taking cues from Cassavetes, and twice implied seething hatred for Paris Hilton. Tell us about your movie: who did you work with, what did you shoot on, why did you make it? Give us the reductive, 25-word or less, “It’s like [pop culture reference a] meets [pop culture reference b]!” pitch, then explain what the quick and dirty sell leaves out. My film is called The Vicious Kind and it stars Adam Scott, Brittany Snow, Alex Frost and JK Simmons. We shot the film on 35mm—Kodak’s Vision 1, specifically. It’s something I very proud of. "Criterion, who had already shown the Wes Anderson love with their Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic discs, announced back in 2007 that they were going to be putting out an edition of Bottle Rocket. This was met with much joy, especially because the previously released version, which came out back in 1996, was about as bare bones as you could get. The only real special feature it could claim was widescreen on one side of the disc, and full screen on the other. Big whoop. The new version, which just came out in late 2008 has a ton of features, and is available in both standard and Blu-ray editions. "I will take the slightly naughty energy of the climactic song “Rock Me Sexy Jesus” from the new film “Hamlet 2” over the shrill teen warblings of any “High School Musical” in a heartbeat. It's not the blasphemous blast some might expect from such a title, but it dances the line just enough to keep you riveted as to where it may go next. This is predominantly due to the exasperated efforts of the film's lead Steve Coogan, who throws his every last spastic muscle into his role of clueless high school drama teacher Dana Marschz. Coogan, who has yet to break big on this continent, is adored by many in his British home where his vain, tempestuous television character Alan Partridge could have easily passed for a sibling to Ricky Gervais' immortal David Brent in the original “The Office.”

"I'm with you CinemaRian,but it just seems like innocent fun or something..FB's DO has been on T.V loadsa times but i only saw it all the way through today,and laughed quite a bit. I knew a Ferrari was involved,a very pretty boy and girl..a tortured "authority" figure,the school principal..er,that's it . Maybe it's notable for "breaking the fourth wall"but doesnt add up to much apart from looking so shiny and fun and the opposite of "world weary",i laughed AT it aswell as with...they visit an ART gallery for cryin out loud!....It's the antithesis of everything that would pass for a "high school" comedy now ...like Rushmore (1998) or the wonderful "Ghostworld" or "Napoleon Dynamite"...and i couldnt help wondering all those idle thoughts like. Why didnt Mia Sara make more films,how come the only other thing i can remember seeing Alan Ruck in is "Speed" Why oh why did Jennifer Grey get a nose job!?...and how Matthew Broderick looks so cute,a lot like Ellen "Juno" Page... "

"I'm sure this could be said of quite a few good film makers. But I really feel strongly that his films are an aquired taste. I really didn't care for Rushmore until the third time I watched it. The Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic were both much better to me the second time around. Finally, with his latest, The Darjeering Limited, I loved it the first time around. I would have to say this is his best film to date. The colorful images, the camera movement and slow-mo scenes were stunning and the on-screen chemestry between the major players was a joy to watch. "

"My list, in continuation… 6. Fargo See my blog entry on it…it’s a while back, but I feel it’s pretty comprehensive as to how fricken incredible this movie is. 7. Chinatown An absolute classic. Jack Nicholson’s greatest role, and an amazing turn by Faye Dunaway. See my review of it…it’s a little while back as well. 8. Mulholland Drive This David Lynch masterpiece of the absurd is just plain awesome. Everything in his power is brought full-on into creating one of the most hypnotizingly gorgeous films ever put onto the screen. T "

"Jessica Alba may be appearing in a lot of movies these days, but I wouldn’t exactly say she’s been keeping busy. It can’t be too much work to play the role of “Eye Candy” again and again and again. This time she plays a girl who is used in exploited for a vengeful ploy by a husband (Aaron Eckhart) to invoke jealousy in his cheating wife (Elizabeth Banks). The character could have been played by any pretty face (in fact Alba replaced Lindsay Lohan in the role), but Alba seems to be the most appropriately cast, because she’s one of the hottest actresses right now and yet she seems to be easily accessible to any filmmaker who wants to employ her. Last week we looked at another movie starring Alba, The Love Guru. In that she seems to have a more disposable role — she’s not really introduced until halfway through the trailer, and even then it’s unclear what purpose her character serves other than to invoke erectile gags from Mike Myers.
