Directed by John McTiernan
Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has a code of honor which he will not violate, even when his life depends on it. Paradoxically, his code of honor gives him the backbone to survive as a military special forces operative when he is sent on a covert mission to rescue another group which was sent in to assist some nefarious U.S. government plan in a Latin American country. Once there, he encounters an old army buddy (Carl Weathers) who has gotten too deep in the CIA's good graces for Dutch's comfort. When he and his team go into the jungle to rescue the others, they get involved in a pitched battle with local guerillas, but they are more than capable of besting these vicious fighters. However, not long after that, they encounter signs that the equally capable men they were sent to rescue were all killed unawares and in an unusually gruesome fashion. Given their training, it should have been impossible for anyone to best all of these commando warriors. Soon, the men from Dutch's own team get picked off one by one, as they grow aware that they are up against something uncanny, not of this world, something that is hunting them for sport. Why? Because their skills make them worthy opponents for the perfectly camouflaged Predator. This carefully paced action movie was given poor reviews by many movie critics, but was sufficiently satisfying for its (largely male) audiences that a successful sequel (Predator 2) was released in 1990. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

""Dutch" (Arnold Schwarzenegger) leads a group of commandos into a dense Central American jungle to rescue hostages, which they learn have been slaughtered by their captors. They find the butchered remains of one of the ones sent in to rescue the hostages. They capture a female captor after destroying the encampment, and killing the majority of the captors and begin the journey back to where they are to meet with the helicopters that would pick them up to leave the area. It is then " [More]

"After nearly four years of YouTube, I’ve had enough of abridged movies. You know, where a user edits together only the necessary plot points of a film for a video called “(movie title) in 60 seconds.” But I must make an exception for the British rap duo The Anomalies. Those guys (DJ Mayhem and MC Mouthmaster Murff, specifically) k " [More]

"In the same vein as the "Alien" franchise (which, ironically, the two film franchises would mesh with AVP and its sequel), this film sets up a man vs. alien premise which works extremely well. I've seen this film several times now (mostly thanks to cable television) and I've got to tell you, I enjoy it every time I see it. Schwarzenegger is in top form and director John McTiernan is able and keeps things moving. All in all, a great film for the action-lovers crowd. My one gripe is the cheesy " [More]

"Released: June 12, 1987Director: John McTiernan*****In the 1980's, there was one go-to guy for action spectacle: John McTiernan. With Predator, his second directing job (Die Hard is the third), he mimics Ridley Scott's 1979 Alien to such a large extent, one has to wonder if that the intention by writers Jim and John Thomas.&nb " [More]

"Until the last 20 minutes, I was trying to figure out how Exit Wounds got its title. Some deep play on words like one of the bad guys introduced would be named John Exit? No, it's because of the nature of some key deaths at the end. You think you're in trouble when a pipe pokes you in the back? Not really... not until it plunges it's way through your mid-section and squi " [More]

"The idea that the two movies somehow blend together is what i'm interested in. See Capote and Good Night on the same day might be a mistake, espeically if you're seeing them for the first time. i guess i'm interested in the home-brew double feature because it could be a way to get more out of the movies than you could get watching them separately, not less. kind of like combining flavors in a dish. just yesterday the guy working at the deli down the street told Paul and i to try h " [More]

Directed by a true master of heart-pumping action, John McTiernan, Predator is an entertaining marriage of action and science fiction. This is a honed-down action film without pretense. Thanks to some spine-tingling camera work, the deep rain forest setting comes alive. The innovative use of special effects make this film stand out from the average blood and guts action film. Using a point-of-view technique previously reserved for horror films, Predator gives the viewer a digitized stalking perspective of the ghastly Predator. One of Arnold Schwarznegger's best roles, the film lets him fly some of his patented one-liners, but for the most part he's restrained. The wily supporting cast includes such colorful characters as Bill Duke, Carl Weathers, and Jesse "The Body" Ventura. While not without its structural flaws, the film stands the test of time: a stylish unbridled action film that ranks extremely high in its genre. ~ Mike DiBella, All Movie Guide
