"Even with subtitles (or terrible dubs courtesy of the Fanning sisters or Kirsten Dunst), I don’t always know what’s going on in the animated films of Hayao Miyazaki. So, I don’t really mind that our first glimpse of his latest, Ponyo on the Cliff, features no English translation. All we need is that cute theme song and footage of Ponyo, the odd “goldfish princess” creature, floating inside of a jellyfish. And that’s basically all we get, for now. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Indiana Jones producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy are working on the U.S. version of the Little Mermaid-inspired film, but few details have been released. If you don’t want to wait around for them to decide on a release date, though, and you understand Japanese, you can travel the distance and see the film when it opens in Japan on July 18.
