"Not as fast and loose as the previous two movies in the series, Ocean’s Thirteen is still quite enjoyable. Clooney, Pitt and the rest of the cast all look like they’re still having fun just hanging out and making a heist movie together, though the script is even more tenuous than it was previously. The best performance, though, is Al Pacino as the villain of this outing. He actually manages to find a balance between playing his character big and yet not going into caricature, something he’s had problems with in the past.        [More]

"Oceans 13 is kind of entertaining but not as much as Oceans 11. The plot is a little less exciting, and some parts of the movie seem unrealistic or cheesy. If you liked Oceans 11, then you would probable like this movie. " [More]

"I bought Ocean's Thirteen without having seen it first because I was gifted with the first two Ocean's movies for Christmas and felt it was a key time to complete the series. Since I bought it without watching it, there will be no test, or it automatically passes, anyway. I just have a thing about completing series, as loyal readers should know, unless the later entries are so abysmal, I know I would never watch them again (see Superman III and IV by way of example).I like the Ocean's movies. They're like caramel corn or cotton candy. All style, no substance. Why does there always need to be substance? Sometimes, I just want to sit back and enjoy some eye candy. Hot men, hot gimmicks, slick plots. I don't care if the capers in the Ocean's movies are virtually impossible to pull off. I don't care if there's no artistic element beyond the surface entertainment value. People who expect something deep and meaningful out of every film they watch ... " [More]

"Watching the Ocean’s movies has always been like leaning back in a comfortable chair. I don’t expect to get much from it if only to know that for the next couple of hours, I’m going to smile. Ocean’s 13 is still the same way. In no way is it possible to pull off this heist, but the movie just doesn’t care. Steven Soderbergh has earned the right to bend reality since in his more important features require more reality than most other filmmakers. He understands that with the right human drama, the little details don’t matter in a movie like this.Ocean’s 13 starts off with the boys getting back together (the girls are left out this time because “it’s not their fight”) when Reuben (Elliot Gould) is put into the hospital after being crushed financially and emotionally by Vegas super-mogul Willie Bank (Al Pacino). Danny and Rusty (George Clooney and Brad Pitt) once again lead their ragtag team into doing the impossible: rigging ... " [More]

"Thankfully this new installment made up for the suckiness that was Ocean's Twelve. ("Oh Julia Roberts, you look just like Julia Roberts!" That was... DUMB.) This one gets you back to the basics and while it can't beat the first one it at least comes in as decent sequel. " [More]

"I am quite sure that it is nearly impossible to be completely objective about a film that is part of a series I am somewhat guiltily obsessed with. In fact, it is difficult to be objective about any film; there is always some degree of subjectivity in the realm of what an individual finds entertaining.  At my midnight showing of Ocean’s Thirteen, I impatiently waited through seemingly endless trailers for the next Nicholas Cage flaming skull movie. Having watched its two predecessors just hours before, I felt completely prepared for whatever my boy Steven Soderbergh was going to bring this time. I am pleased to say that I was not underwhelmed.  That said, I had the exact same feeling walking out of the theater that I experienced after the first two: an indescribable, queasy sensation of relief and anxiety. This paradoxical sense of being completely amazed in how Soderbergh was able to tease me as I gullibly maintained that the film would end in a sudden, unsatisfying, over-st ... " [More]

"Oh, do I love it when Soderbergh just sits back and has some fun with his boys.I refuse to apologize for it, either. The Ocean films might not be high art, perhaps, they might not have any important message or central theme or whatever, but they're pure, undiluted fun. More importantly, perhaps, they don't confuse being fun with dumbing down and making fart jokes. Instead, this film, like the others, finds the fun in nice small character moments: Danny and Rusty finishing each other's sentences and sniffling over Oprah, Roman's competitor being called Greco, Virgil leading a Mexican worker's revolt, Basher's letters, Linus' nose, I could go on. Soderbergh himself, in the meantime, amuses himself as "Peter Andrews" by going crazy with color filters, strange angles, overlays, even a split screen at some point. Not everything works, of course. The big seduction of Ellen Barkin is too puerile and vaguely reeks of sexism, even for a boys-will-be-boys movie like " [More]

"June 15: Since following up his twin Oscar nominations [and Best Director win] in 2000 with the blockbuster "Ocean's Eleven," Steven Soderbergh has stayed busy but failed to reach those same early millennium artistic and box office highs. The big-budget "Ocean's Thirteen," like its predecessor "Ocean's Twelve," follows two films that seemed to satisfy Soderbergh's film-geek curiosity -- the digital art project "Bubble" and the homage to classic Hollywood cinema "The Good German", just as "Ocean's Twelve" was preceeded by the digital art project "Full Frontal" and a remake of Russian master Andrei Tarkovsky's "Solaris." Maybe making the "Ocean's" franchise is how a guy like Soderbergh relaxes. A lot of fans of "Ocean's Eleven" were let down by the lightweight sequel. Will a return to Vegas return Soderbergh and company to the audience's good graces? Adam and Sam weigh in.Also on the show, a review of "Once," winner of the World Dramatic Audience Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Fe ... " [More]
