"If you are interested in cinematography, great cinematography, and great cinematographers, Cinematographer Style would probably be both a highly interesting and highly frustrating experience. Keep reading to find out why! First of all, as an irrelevant piece of information (you can skip this paragraph if you just want to hear about the movie itself) I first heard about this movie from one of my former roommates. He was quite a young guy that I found on craig's list who was studying cinematography at Columbia College in Chicago. He mentioned that he knew a guy who was working on this production, and I think he may have even visited the set one day they were filming one of the cinematographers in the film. Anyways he made the whole thing sound very exciting and epic. "The Coens have the uncanny ability to make you laugh hysterically and then make you feel like a total jerk for laughing, all in the same stride. Burn After Reading provides that sort of fun-filled game of the Coens providing you with outstanding entertainment, all the while toying with you and laughing smugly to themselves. A standard moviegoer walks out of Burn After Reading with a big, goofy smile, having thoroughly enjoyed the antics and witticisms of the array of imbeciles portrayed onscreen. The avid filmgoer (and Coen devotee) will walk out of the film with the same goofy smile, except realizing how stupid the Coens just made everyone and everything in the world look. Oh, Ethan and Joel, how you mock us... The film opens with a wide shot of the United States from an "intelligence" standpoint in outer space. I believe that the purpose of this was to establish the only firm idea in the film: You are in Washington, DC, in the United States. Have fun. The beginning segments ... "

"Well, there's a whole host of potentially interesting films coming out this weekend. In weighing my options for Friday night viewing it narrows down pretty quickly to two films:First, is The Women. It has a great cast and is sure to deliver on lots of the usual chick-flick types of subjects. It could go one of two ways though, really fun and relatable (making me glad to be a woman) or terrible and catty (making me hate my gender). I really like Meg Ryan though and I am glad to see her in a movie again, it's been a while. One of my favorite movies has always been Proof of Life, which I thought she did a great job in.Secondly and speaking of supporting people I like, the brothers Coen are putting out their newest flick Burn After Reading. I am a big fan of these guys' sense of humor. The quirky characters and laughable scenarios are always entertaining. But it could really go either way for me at this point. I have to recall how little I liked The Ladykillers and this could be just a ... "

"Everybody remembers the bigger name Coen Bros. regulars, such as John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Frances McDormand, Billy Bob Thornton and now George Clooney. And of course, there are the one-shot stars, like Nicolas Cage, Gabriel Byrne, Jeff Bridges, William H. Macy, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Moore, Paul Newman, Albert Finney, Woody Harrelson, Tim Robbins and now Brad Pitt and John Malkovich. But who ever talks about Michael Lerner? He received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Barton Fink, yet he never seems to get the same kind of respect that Javier Bardem gets, and it’s not just because Bardem won the award for No Country for Old Men. With their new film, Burn After Reading, the Coens have again recast some lesser known character actors that I hope get the recognition they deserve. Both Richard Jenkins and J.K. "This week, thanks to The Rocker, we can add another fictional band to the long list of music groups created solely for the movies. They’re called Vesuvius, and they’re an ‘80s hair band with a hit song titled “Promised Land.” As part of the film’s marketing, the track was offered as a free download for play on Rock Band (see the clip above). But if you ask me, the wrong tune was used in the promotion. Another song from the soundtrack, also credited to Vesuvius, is called “Pompeii Nights,” and it’s definitely the better of the two. I’m not surprised, though. "I'm not typically a fan of Clint Eastwood's directing. In fact, I generally hate it. It's way too moody, way too brooding, and no one ever seems happy or light-hearted. He depicts the world as being a terrible place where everyone is depressed and messed up. Which may be true, but it makes for a very sobering viewing experience. For example, I hated Million Dollar Baby a lot. It was depressing, annoying, and the entire movie was done in shadows, which pissed me off (however, Morgan Freeman was amazing). While a lot of this was the case for Mystic River, for some reason I found more to like in this movie. It was extremely powerful and intense, and the human stories were very well-done. It was damn near perfect, until the overly extended ending. Though there were some errors before that, too.The opening scenes of the film are extremely disturbing and gut-wrenching. They set the stage for themes of the film as a whole. And they allow Tim Robbins to delve deep i ... "

"I might be the only man on Earth who had never heard the phrase “jam out with your clam out,” but at least I’ll go into Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay having heard all of its jokes before. The new R-rated (NSFW) trailer for the sequel to Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (via Movie City Indie) is plenty hilarious. I just have the feeling that it gives too much away. Here are some gags that could have been saved for the actual movie: George Bush smoking pot and saying the words “cock sandwich”; the one-eyed inbred son in the basement, which comes after an obvious set-up, anyway, and which reminds too much of the tow truck driver’s house in the woods from the first movie; and the Ku Klux Klan sequence, which feels ripped straight from O Brother, Where Art Thou? – it will l "
