"Danny Boyle’s new crowd-pleasing film Slumdog Millionaire was originally intended to be shot entirely in English, but apparently due to the preferences of a casting director, about a third of the movie is in Hindi. "A mediocre film about redemption and revenge and the consequences of those actions. Denzel Washington's acting is decent, but I felt the MTV-style flash-and-pomp editing job was detrimental to the story. You could argue it effectively portrayed his confused state of mind (mostly seen when he was drinking), but it unnecessarily extended itself to action scenes, etc. I also found the 'plot points' subtitling to be a bit condescending. I wanted to say "I GET IT! I'M PAYING ATTENTION!" The script could have used a little more polish, in my opinion, as there are character flaws all over the place. A forgettable film from a mostly forgettable director. " [More]

Part of the reason might be that Denzil Washington is his usually great acting self, and the other actors (many Mexican) are good. For another, the camera work is lively. Sometimes the speeded up and jumpy camera work is for no apparent reason. Probably the main reason people like this movie is that they do not believe the system works anymore, and the only way to get release, to get things done, to get any justice is to start mowing people down. Are they right? Even though the plot is cookie cutter, this formulaic movie has some imp ... " [More]
