"Let me cut to the chase - if you have not seen Lucky You, there is no reason to rush out and pick it up. It's just too long for what it is. Get a cheaper cast and make it a one-hour, one-shot TV movie on ESPN without commercial interruption. I don't care what card sharks tell you -- watching a Texas Hold 'Em game on TV is not thrilling, and the narration to educate us on the rules only muddies things. We're still just watching expressions and cheers to see who won each round.I like Drew Barrymore. But all her romantic characters are virtually interchangeable. "

"A gambler walks into a pawn shop looking to sell a digital camera still in the box. When the dealer won't give him the price he wants, he explains how his camera could increase her profit off the other cameras. The dealer smiles, but doesn't give in, but does give him more. This is an excellent opening in Lucky You, director Curtis Hanson's finest film since Wonderboys. Taking place in Las Vegas just before the 2003 World Series of Poker. The gambler's name is Huck and is played by Eric Bana. He is one of the many trying to get into the game. But he has a few problems. The first and most serious is that while he is a great player he has a problem leaving the table while his chips are up, always putting deeper into an already deep well. His second problem is that he's finding him attracted to a newcomer in Vegas, Billie (Drew Barrymore). She's sweet and nieve to the likes of Huck, whom easily charms her even when her own sister (Debra Messing) warns her away. ... "

"Lucky You (2007) is a Janus-faced movie. On one side, it is a romance between a compulsive, professional gambler (Eric Bana) and a naïve young woman who wants to try lounge singing (Drew Barrymore). Will their romance catch fire and do him a world of good, or will it fizzle out as usual? On the other side, it is the 2003 World Series of Poker. What will happen when father (Robert Duval) and his estranged son (Bana) meet in the Series? This creates a movie that is about half an hour too long (2 hrs 4 min). More importantly, the audience that will like the sweet romance is probably quite different from the one that will be captivated by various hands of Texas Hold ‘Em. Put another way, many people can empathize with a young woman who hopes that her goodness will change a ne’er do well, and, although some people might find Bana’s character unsympathetic, a lot of people can hope for a young man’s moral redemption. But relatively few viewers can get excited ... "

Yes, there was an all star cast, don't blink or you will miss them. I wonder why we saw so little of them! But all N all... Good Job! "
