"I hadn't seen Logan's Run since pre-DVD era. It's not quite as entertaining as I remembered, probably for the reasons explained quite well by the All Movie Guide review below. I love sci-fi movies, but so many of them make a huge unbelievable leap setting up the current year's scenario and the viewer is just supposed to accept it.Logan's Run is set in the 23rd century. So sometime between 1976 and 2276 no human knows what a marriage or family is, what individual committment is, what purity might mean -- artificial intelligence takes care of everyone and no one asks questions. The tough sell with Logan himself is that you never can tell exactly what his motives are. He *seems* to truly side with the rebels early on but then alerts the authorities to his location. Then a minute later he seems on board with the rebels again. Because Michael York's acting is so intense and over-the-top, you feel like you should believe the obvious. He says he's with ... " [More]

"Here’s the dilemma. I have a list of well over three thousand movies I want to see saved on IMDB. I have a subscription to Netflix and recently every time I return a DVD it has been an extremely arduous task to make the decision as to which movie I should see next. In an effort to narrow down my choices and make the process of choosing slightly less overwhelming I have devised a system, almost a bit of a game for me. Here’s how it goes. For my first film selection, I have narrowed the options down to only films that were released in the year 2006. Then after I have watched that movie, my next selection would have to be a film released in 2005. Then I would see a film from 2004, then 2003, etc. The process of deciding is still laborious, but actually quite a bit more exciting. (I'm going by IMDB as my source for release years)I have already been making a list and have also already begun watching the films. I decided this might be a good time to start fooling ... " [More]

"This blog entry is part of my “movie year countdown”. To read more about that check out my first Spout filmblog entry.Logan's RunI just plain enjoyed this movie. Yeah there are some pretty dated special effects, but they are still enchanting. Jenny Agutter is gorgeous. And Peter Ustinov is brilliant.I really just like the story idea. I've still never read the book or seen the TV show, but I am interested now. All of the different areas of this world, the outside with the destroyed remnants of our old world, just all of the different settings were part of what made it so interesting as well.I hear there is a remake in the works and I actually really don't mind that. I think there's a whole lot that could be done with the movie. And the original movie isn't perfect by any means. I think an updated version could have a lot more or different things to say given the current state of affairs in the world. As long as they can find someone as good ... " [More]

"Former architect/advert director/David Fincher protege Joseph Kosinski has been hired to direct a remake of Logan’s Run. The script is to be written by Tim Sexton, who was nominated for an Oscar for Children of Men, and the film is expected to look more like the 1967 novel than the 1976 Michael York film. Before remaking his own King of Kong as a feature for New Line, Seth Gordon will direct Four Christmases, a Vince Vaughn/Reese Witherspoon comedy that the studio is rushing into production in order to secure a December 2008 tentpole in cas " [More]

"THE DOT-MATRIX (1970)During the week, young Tom Anderson (Robert Redford) is a Mathematicion for a "research" company (cover up agency for the CIA) located in a desert airplane hanger. On weekends he's a motorcyclist. Tom runs out of gas one night along a desert stretch of highway and stumbles into a Native American sweat lodge where he meets "The Chief" (Iron-Eyes Cody). After ingesting an ancient herbal tea, The Chief takes Tom on a hallucinogenic journey where he discovers that a super-computer is feeding the thoughts of every American to them. Each human's thoughts are recorded on to a unique dot-matrix card filed away in an underground bunker. The Chief trains Tom in the ways of "seeing" and gives him a new name, Nubian. Although Nubian's mind is freed by the herbal tea, its effects will only last for 48 hours before he forgets his name and his thoughts are taken over again by the super-computer. So Nubian heads out to find the underground bunker and burn his dot-matrix card, b ... " [More]

"Logan's Run i watched Ewan McGregor in "The Island" a few days ago and I kept having thoughts of how it was basically a remake of Logan's Run. so I had to break out the classics. I forgot how much i really enjoyed this movie. Peter York was a perfect fit for the role. The special effects were pretty low-budget; everytime they would shoot at the runner it always made a spark at their feet. i guess in the future nobody is taught how to aim. it reminded me of the old bugs bunny cartoons where yosemite would shoot at the feet and yell "dance ya varmint". Aside from that, I loved the theme of the movie.who can forget the creepy "renewal ceremony" masks? " [More]
