Directed by Mike Figgis
Mike Figgis' grim drama documents a romantic triangle of sorts involving prostitute Sera (Elisabeth Shue), failed Hollywood screenwriter Ben (Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage), and the constant flow of booze which he loves more dearly than life itself. Arriving in Las Vegas with the intention of drinking himself to death, Ben meets Sera, and they gradually begin falling for one another. From the outset, however, Ben warns Sera that no matter what, she can never ask him to quit drinking, a condition to which she grudgingly agrees. A darkly comic tragedy, Leaving Las Vegas charts the brief romantic convergence of two desperately needy people who together find a brief flicker of happiness. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide

"Leaving Las Vegas left me feeling for the two main characters, which, on the surface, seemed tough to do. However, Mike Figgis did a marvelous job of telling this story of an alcoholic and a Las Vegas hooker who fall for each other, that it all worked. Nicholas Cage and Elisabeth Shue worked extremely well together. I was also impressed by how, the normally wholesome, Shue was able to pull of being a hooker Good movie. " [More]

"The controlling idea behind Patrice Chereau's Son Frere is the painful, tragic lack of closeness between men. It is mostly Luc's story, how his brother Thomas's disease becomes a watershed for their troubled relationship. An incident that Thomas cannot remember, and we are never shown, has had far reaching consequences that the two might never have confronted, had it not been for Thomas's sickness. The plot is alarmingly simple. Th " [More]
