"This blog entry is part of my "movie year countdown round #2". Read more about that here. Kiss Me Deadly The Mike Hammer of this film is one of the most selfish, sleaziest protagonists I've seen, even for film noir. I was kind of surprised and amused at the excessive use of violence. Not that things don't usually end up violent in film noir of this type, but Hammer fairly quickly in his series of investigations, progresses to the point where if someone doesn't give him the info he wants right away, he jumps almost straight to bribes. And if they don't accept the first offer he jumps straight into violence. There is little time wasted in escalating from verbal threats to violence if he doesn't get what he wants immediately. "This is a list for Round 2 of my movie year countdown viewing project as first described here. If by any strange chance whoever is reading this is actually following along you may notice that I'm still less than two thirds of the way through my original one. Well I'm starting this new one because as much as I love old movies it can get a little tedious watching just older movies. So I'm going to be blending my watching of the two lists together. Still focusing on the original one, but every once in a while sliding in the next entry from this new list.Again these new movies are limited to full length movies that are available on Netflix. And for this new round instead of picking a movie from every year, I will be picking a movie from every two years. For example the first movie must have come out during 2006 or 2007. The second movie must have come out in 2004 or 2005. The next in 2002 or 2003. You see.The list is not finished yet, but here is what I have decide ... "

"The filmspotting noir marathon started out very strong. I was loving every movie. But the last two films left me a bit cold. The Asphalt Jungle is very famous, directed by John Huston ("Prizzi's Honor"), nominated for four Oscars, but I couldn't get into it. It's very well done. The cinematography is gorgeous, but I just didn't care about any of the characters, or even the story really. Maybe because this is a heist film instead of a detective story. And I don't always enjoy a heist. But at least all of the women weren't evil. So that's a plus. But at the same time, there wasn't a femme fatale.I enjoyed Kiss Me Deadly a bit more. Possibly because it was so strange. Detective Mike Hammer picks up a scantily clad female hitchhiker. She asks him to remember her if she doesn't make it. So when their car is overtaken, leaving her dead and him unconscious, he sets out to unravel the mystery. Though I can't say I really liked any of the characters i ... "
