"This blog entry is part of my "movie year countdown round #2". Read more about that here. Henry V I'm not sure if I ever found Shakespeare easy to follow, but for some reason before I stuck this DVD in to start watching this film, I think I had created the illusion that I did. Maybe because I had read a lot of it before in school. I've seen many Shakespeare plays performed. I've even seen some performed by the worlds most renowned Shakespeare performers in Shakespeare's own local of London and Stratford-upon-Avon. I've seen several Shakespeare films. And I've even performed in Twelfth Night. I guess that was a while ago, because it seems that I forgot that unless the performers or the staging goes to extra length to make a modern audience like myself get the gist, the words take a lot of reading over and over and usually excessive research to really understand what the heck is going on or really being said. Lawrence Olivier's Henry V did not really help me out here. I was a ... "

"This is a list for Round 2 of my movie year countdown viewing project as first described here. If by any strange chance whoever is reading this is actually following along you may notice that I'm still less than two thirds of the way through my original one. Well I'm starting this new one because as much as I love old movies it can get a little tedious watching just older movies. So I'm going to be blending my watching of the two lists together. Still focusing on the original one, but every once in a while sliding in the next entry from this new list.Again these new movies are limited to full length movies that are available on Netflix. And for this new round instead of picking a movie from every year, I will be picking a movie from every two years. For example the first movie must have come out during 2006 or 2007. The second movie must have come out in 2004 or 2005. The next in 2002 or 2003. You see.The list is not finished yet, but here is what I have decide ... "

"Well, This was actually my first viewing of any Henry V adaptation (that I remember). First off, I am a sucker for Technicolor. I freaking love it! I really enjoyed the whole performance aspect of it. I really want to see a different version that might play out like a regular film. I'm gonna check out Branagh's version. Great opening and great battle scene. Olivier did a good job, but it wasn't really much different to me than some of his other Shakespeare performances It felt a bit dated at times, but I really enjoyed it overall. . Looking forward to seeing more! "

"A boring Sir Larry performance? Or a boring Shakespeare play? How could either be possible? Yet it was so. I couldn't stay interested in either the story or how it was performed and literally nodded off. So I was quite skeptical about the buzz Kenneth Branagh's version was getting years later. Thank gods I gave Branagh a chance--thoroughly loved his rendition. Hearing his St. Crispin's Day speech made me want to jump up and follow Harry into battle. Though I still say Henry the Fifth's reason for going to war (according to Shakespeare) was rather thin.:-) "
