A Moving, Tragic Anime Film

"Grave of the Fireflies is a poignant anime movie set during the last harrowing days of World War Two in Japan. The movie begins with Seita, the main character of this tragedy, dying and telling us of the days before his death. Even with such a simple plot, this movie is amazing, with great, detailed animation and complex characters. Amazingly, this animated movie of the pains and horrors of war seen through the young eyes of two orphans- Seita and his little sister, Setsuko -who are trying to survive their dangerous environment is told excellently with an anti-war message that makes it probably one of the best anti-war films made. It doesn't look at the soldiers fighting or war and it's ideals and politics; it casts all that away to look at something much more simple and moving: how inevitable human conflict affects people, their lives, and their feelings, particularly children and the innocence they lose.
