"I guess this was supposed to be a chick's film. I'm a guy and I loved it at age 15. I have a thing for adventure and mystery. Anybody know when this'll hit DVD? Last I heard MCA promised it 2007 but it never came out. Used to have a mondo crush on these chicks. Well, I ordered the laserdisc. Once I get a player, I'm transferring this to DVD! "

"It would only take a woman to understand the incredible bond between Jody and Beth in this film. Who wouldn't want a friend who would run several miles to save your life? To arbitrarily say it was terrible shows the lack of appreciation one has for deep and caring friendships. This movie is not meant to be a lesson to teens but rather celebrates what two people can accomplish together. Jody is inspiring and exciting and Beth brings common sense and a desire for adventure into the story. The actors, Anna Chlumsky (Jody) and Christina Ricci (Beth) gave top-notch performances although the script caused them to struggle in some places. The photography was splendid in the breathtaking backcountry of the Pacific Northwest and the director's use of birds's eye views puts the viewer even more into the adventure. I laughed, I teared abit, but mostly I felt incredible pride for the characters and warmhearted inside. This movie is incredible. Join Beth and Jody on their journey a ... "

"Well my #1 pick for the all-time worst movies has to be the 1995 box office bomb Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. The real secret of this movie was that it was terrible. At the time I was working as a movie projectionist and had the great/awful job of having to review every film that came in before it aired. During the early 90's I saw a lot of fantastic films, but this pre-teenage girl coming of age film was a little outside of my demographic. The movie tells the story of an alcoholic father and his daughter who is trying to escape from his self-abuse. It's hard to believe that Cristina Ricci could have done such a poor job of acting, but between the writing, the acting and the plotline that never seems to go anywhere make this my pick for the worst movie ever.
