"What is this guy (Haneke) playing at ?..i could give it a three word review Pa-the-tic!... "Henry" the serial killer meets "Click" ! Yeah we get it..we are the voyeurs, this is so clever...why are we watching?..and all that... The breaking the "fourth wall" bits arent even obvious enough to start with . .If anything the depiction of the torture scenario is too intense, too realsitic for what this ultimately purports to be,That is, a treatise on our voyeuristic violence obsessed viewing habits..but , when he winds the tape back, for cryin out loud what a joke! the anger sets in... Why have i wasted my time watching this?..Dont make the same mistake... Obviously i couldnt help giving a thought or two to the Hollywood remake..I suppose Naomi Watts is pretty good at crying and going red in the face... "

"Horror site Bloody-Disgusting is hosting a new clip from Funny Games, Michael Haneke’s English-language remake of his 1997 film of the same name. This go-round stars Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet; in this clip, a ridiculously creepy Pitt goads Watts on an unpleasant scavenger hunt. Watch it here. And it's interesting to me, but I'm almost more interested in other people's reactions to it than to the movie itself. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it a big more intriguing, but mostly I didn't find it to be as shocking as many seem to. Apparently at some of the screenings people were most appalled by the part where money is flushed down the toilet. It's been a few months since I saw it now and it's hard to remember whether the movie was cathartic or depressing. I could connect with how monotonous and autonomous the lives of the characters were, but I think even with what the movie was trying to do, there needed to be at least one moment where we could enjoy life with them before the final downward spiral. "It defiantly had an intensity and tension that you could cut with a knife (no pun intended), but I had lots of problems with it. Mainly the whole "talking to the audience" stuff and the scene with the remote. It always took me out of the film and completely changed the feeling. I don't understand why Haneke did that. "
