"It’s bad enough that Hollywood has to remake all of my childhood memories (yes, I admit my childhood memories are mostly TV shows and movies from the ’70s and ’80s). But when they go and use CGI rather than actors and completely alter the way I remember things (man, that sucked how the Who’s the Boss movie featured a computer generated Mona), I just get so upset I could rant on a blog. So, imagine my relief when I saw this official photo from the set of Universal’s Land of the Lost in today’s USA Today. Yes, those Sleestak look just as you remember. Only darker, more detailed, and a little (just a little) less like a costume with a human inside. But as much as I’d like to salute director Brad Silberling both for respecting my childhood and for shitting on CGI (which is still just too lazy a tool these days), the choice seems mostly to do with retaining the show’s cheesiness. Anthony Breznican writes for USA Today: In the ’70s "

"I thought the movie was funny but at times very slow. I was a little confused going in on how the Writers were going to make this into a comedy. Good Job ! I say on making this movie at least a little funny but it coul have been a lot better. When you have an actor like Steve Carell you have to take full advantage of his talent and this is something this movie did not do. Overall. I am going to buy it for the collection. CJSBAD2 "

"I see now the true meaning behind that word. No, I haven't "looked it up"--not what it means today nor how it ended up meaning that--but I would say that it means/has-meant/wioll-ben-habe n-mennenging "a story/retelling that serves as an example" ... kind of a 'the way stuff is/was/might-be'.Evan Almighty--like Bruce Almighty before it (only a prequel in the same sense as Vince McMahon is my ancestor)--serves as a Testament ... in this case, a reminder that God's work is here for us to pick up IF WE'RE READY FOR IT.I'm seeing that Spout-ers--on average--aren't READY FOR IT. That's something I've noticed about the last few movies I've reviewed here---the reviewers don't understand that THE VIEWER makes the movie good or -bad! The typical review-writer--I suppose 'in order to prove `is cinematic esteem-level (or something)--will often paint the movie as bad as `e possibly can ... often going so far as to make the qui ... "

"I actually was very, very surprised by this movie (having expected more of a Bruce almighty remake) I was pleasantly greeted by an adorable little family film... it was exciting and fun, the story kept moving. Although it wasn’t an adult focused movie (like bruce almighty was) is was much more family friendly. I enjoyed the light humor and the quite comical “dancing” credits. All in all, a 10 out of 10. "

"If there are two types of movies that really annoy me, they are cute family movies where parents are witless and the kids seem to rule the roost. The other type of movie is the condescending religious film that might get the story right, but loose the message altogether. I am on record for saying that there are not enough “good” family movies out there, not to mention religious movies that prefer to embrace rather than preach. I didn’t expect much going into Evan Almighty, considering that I was on the fence with Bruce Almighty (which I thought was a little too raunchy to be insightful, but well-meaning all the same). But I can honestly say that this is one sequel that outdoes to original big-time by merely finding its niche in family comedy. While it teeters VERY close to both types of movies I hate, it adjusts itself into a rather satisfactory third act.The movie revolved around Evan Baxter (Steve Carell), who if you don’t remember was Bruce’s rival ... "***Apparently resigned to the idea that Evan Almighty can never recoup its costs and is basically the biggest tax write-off ever, Universal has scrapped plans to release the picture in Japan. The studio declined to state a specific reason, but Variety speculates that Steve Carell's lack of international star power might be part of the problem. Oh, and the fact that Americans didn't want to see it either. ***Consumer home video spending is down almost five percent, and studios are blaming themselves for releasing so much crap during the first half of the year. ***Sony, which bought online video portal Grouper last year, has changed the site's name to Crackle as part of an effort to re-brand the property as a vehicle for Sony-produced content, as well as a launching pad for new video stars. Contests in place at launch tempt user participation by offering pitch meetings with Sony execs as a grand prize--as if kids who are getting millions of page views on YouTube would gi "
