"What better way to get in the mood for the double-barrelled shotgun blast of Sundance and Slamdance than by entering to win one of five copies of The Deal on DVD. Here’s what the movie is all about: A struggling film producer (William H. Macy) teams up with a beleaguered studio executive (Meg Ryan) who is forced to make a doomed action movie with him in which their mercurial star (LL Cool J) seems determined to finish their careers. When their action hero is kidnapped and the studio abruptly shuts down the movie, the mismatched pair conspire to keep the cameras rolling at the studio’s expense – and reluctantly fall in love in the process. Visit the movie’s official website to find out more and watch the trailer as well as clips from the film. Getting your copy is pretty easy. Since The Deal is all about the inner-machinations of Hollywood, we want to know what your favorite movie set in Hollywood is 1. Bowfinger ([More]

"SYNOPSIS: Ed Wood is a dreamer. He dreams of making feature films, having his name in lights and, for all intents and purposes, being the equal of Orson Welles. The problems with Ed are many: he doesn’t necessarily have the talent to be a director, producer, writer or actor; he has an outmoded and outdated sense of loyalty to the aged horror icon Bela Lugosi; and, oh yeah, almost forgot…he’s a cross-dresser. In particular, he likes to wear his girlfriend’s pink angora sweater, pumps, a wig and a skirt. He gets dressed up in his apartment and on the set. But then he learns of a gender swapping movie being made in a no-name studio and throws his hat into the ring for the writer and director roles. Soon, he finds himself in the spotlight.ANALYIS: This is the fourth collaboration between director/producer Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride) and it is undoubtedly the most bizarre. Ed Wood was a ... " [More]

"Hello out there in Spoutland! It has been a couple of weeks since my last entry, as I was finishing up that aforementioned school play, which went off as smashingly as it could. Fame really is gonna' live forever, but I digress. As it is, I have been sitting on this Netflix movie for I don't know how long, as I was not really afforded the luxury of time to watch it. Now that the show is done, and the TV season spurts and sputters back to life, it's back to what I enjoy doing best: watching movies. I have been looking forward to watching Ed Wood for a long time because it's got a magical mix of ingredients, including direction by Tim Burton (a general favorite), a primary role by dreamy Johnny Depp, and a supporting turn by the fabulous Bill Murray. Anything else about this film was icing on the cake, so I was eager to give it a looksee. It didn't really live up to my expectations this time around, however, though I still found it to be an enjoyable and decidedly unique and af ... " [More]

Fitzcarraldo (1982) - It's the story of a man who will stop at nothing to pull a ship over a mountain, made by a a man who will stop at nothing to make a film about a man who pulls a ship over a mountain.2. Faust (1926) - Have you seen this film? Seriously, how the heck did they make this thing back then. Very scary.3. Alexander Nevsky (1938) - So unbelievably epic. You can still see it's influence on films Action/Epic films to this day. 4. Ed Wood (1994) - Burton's best film ever. The best biopic film ever. Best film of 1994. One of my favorite films of all time.5. Mary Poppins (1964) - Loved it as a kid. Love it as an adult. It's a classic that never grows old or dated, so shut up!!Here are some of my runners up:Princess Mononoke (1997)Ivan The Terrible Part:I (1944)Barton Fink (1991) " [More]

"I'm going to tell you right at the start: Fantastic 4 wins this battle. Why? well, sit back and I will explain it to you.My biggest mistake was having expectations. I love Sam Raimi and have been a fan of his since I first saw Army of Darkness (aka Bruce Campbell Vs. The Army Of Darkness, a far better title if you ask me). I enjoyed his frenetic camera moves and the use of alternate angles to create a uncomfortable, stalking feeling. The bike mounted camera chases of all the Evil Dead movies is hard to top in my book. Spiderman 1 was the most powerful of the series story wise it had Spiderman's origin as well as the death of his uncle. The scenes where he is learning to use his new powers easily captures the imagination with many of the movies viewers. In my opinion, looking at Spiderman 1 you can tell it is well-made and that the director knew his stuff but, it doesn't have very many of Raimi's trademarks, you know, the things that make a Sam Raimi movi a Sam ...
