"There really is no demand for a sequel to Street Fighter, the video game-to-film adaptation that had the sad distinction of being Raul Julia’s final film. And while the franchise is alive and well through parody (College Humor’s Street Fighter: The Later Years) and a fourth–technically 15th–videogame spin-off, one must stop and wonder: who the hell cares? Now we have Kristin Kreuk, best known for being a damsel on Smallville, emerging for her first feature film lead role as Chun-Li! (You know, the one who does the kicks and turns herself upside down while spinning like a helicopter? No? Fine, nevermind.) The trailer is in Japanese, but allow us to translate for you: her family was killed by an evil organization (Shadowlaw) run by M. Bison (Raul Julia before, now…Neal McDonough?) and she’s going to get revenge with the help of her wacky sidekicks and CGI energy blasts. Not to mention obscene Wire-Fu and generic dramatic music. At least Andrzej Bartkowiak is no stranger to dumb, si ... "

"I have been a fan of the game Doom since it first came out, so I really wanted to like the movie. Alas, while it had some moments, it didn't have enough of them. Certainly not the worst movie of the year, but not worth a sequel unless they do a much better job. "

"Last week, I followed a link from Fimoculous to Wired’s GameLife, where blogger Chris Baker attempted to quell the anti-Roger Ebert sentiment in the game community by posting a game review written by Ebert for the magazine. If you just read that sentence and immediately asked yourself, “What anti-Roger Ebert sentiment in the video game community?” … well, let me back up a bit. In 2005, Ebert fired the first of several shots in what appears to have been an accidental battle, by admitting to never having played the video game that inspired the movie Doom. A reader named Vikram Keskar wrote in with an extremely well-articulated letter of protest: Doom works as a tribute because it fail "

"DOOM **rated R (strong violence/gore & language)1 hr. & 40 min.directed by: Andrzej Bartkowiakwritten by: David Callaham & Wesley StrickLast week some of the fellas and I went out to the Tuesday night $5.00-free parking-free popcorn special at our local theatre. Parked our brains and watched the latest sci-fi video game translation to screen. You gotta know what you're goin' into when you make the decision to see these types of flicks. It cracks me up when people gripe and complain that a movie like DOOM was rotten. I mean that's one of the reasons trailers exist, so you can kinda make up yer mind, ya know? (My wife and I make it a tradition to do the whole thumps up/thumps down review after each trailer when we're at the movies.) When I first saw the trailer, I thought, "Ah, looks just okay but fun. I'll check it out with the fellas," and that's exactly what happened. For those of you who have no idea what DOOM is or about or never played the classic FPS video ... "

"Let me start by saying I have only played a little of the doom franchise, most notably Doom 3. So writing this review I won't be heavily relating it towards the games, as I don't know that much about them to compare. I will say that I heard a lot of negative feedback about this flick and that I don't feel like it's getting the recognition it deserves. I also feel that once a game franchise is made into movies it more often then not carries with it an unfair disadvantage. Let me start by saying Doom is much more then just a sci-fi action flick, it touches on so many well rounded themes that really get over shadowed by the fact it is a "video game movie, staring a former pro wrestler". If you look into the story arc you will find a plethora of deep and intriguing elements. One of the most dominant themes in the story follows the concept of mans endless need for technology and science, which ultimately in this movie unlocks a hellish nightmare. There's a ... "
