"This is the true story of the late Domino Harvey (played by Keira Knightly), a former British fashion model who became a well known bounty hunter in Los Angeles. Although the story is true, the movie is only based on her life. Sadly, Harvey would die of a drug overdose about five months before the movie's release. The first thing you will notice is the cinematography. There are some interesting edits, lighting and use of on-screen graphics. The edits themselves help enhance the action scenes pretty nicely, and the lighting help set the mood for the movie. Another thing that is pretty good is the performances. Mickey Rourke does a good job as Domino's bounty hunting boss. In fact, even though I knew he was in the movie, I didn't recognize him due to his dramatic change in appearance. Another "He looks familiar" performance is Dabney Coleman, who appears to have gained some weight. Two actors who, in my opinion, are totally useless are Ian Ziering and Brian Austin Green, both of "Bev ... " [More]

"I don’t want to imply that I find all corset movies to be boring — though I’ve never been a big fan of that stuffy period-piece genre — but after watching the new trailer for The Duchess (courtesy of Moviefone), I’ve bookmarked the film as potentially the??most effective??sleeping aid??of 2008. The main problem is that Keira Knightley in a corset is one of the most tired things in filmmaking these days. In fact, Knightley in any type of period " [More]

"By Tricia Olszewski Everyone knows that the ideal ’50s housewife reared her children, kept a spotless home, pampered her husband, and was perfectly pressed, coiffed, and made-up while doing it all. But according to The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, this suburban legend also managed one other feat: instantly defusing her spouse’s alcoholic rages, with a quip, a bright smile, or, when things got especially tense, maybe a flung bowl of Jell-O. As portrayed in writer-director Jane Anderson’s debut feature film, this type of woman—forever to be played by Julianne Moore—is plucky, yes, but also a bit psychotic. Moxie is one thing. But laughing in the face of a desperately self-hating man when he’s drunk? Moore’s Evelyn Ryan does just that—and more: She ignores him while giggling with the kids, condescendingly but chirpily says, “Yes, I can hear you!” when he freaks about not being listened to, and dismisses him with “R ... "I recently joined the "worst-ever" group and wrote the following post to nominate three films to the list. 1. Demonlover 2. Domino 3. Pearl Harbor Here's the post: First off, just want to say hello to everyone in this group, and thanks for the invite. This is a great group to have. Thinking back over and weeding out the truly awful movies is very important, and a great brain teaser - try to remember the movies you've tried so hard to forgot. Also, regarding Munich, I haven't even seen it, but I would argue that anything by Spielberg (almost by definition) could NOT be worst-ever material. And, if we're going to consider anything by Spielberg, you have to consider A.I. first. That was REALLY bad, but still not worst ever in my opinion. I mean, there are A LOT of films out there. Worst ever, in my humble opinion, has to be insulting to the human condition, insulting to anyone with even a modicum of intelligence. Worst-ever has to be a film that forces me to wonder how the writer and/ ... " [More]
