"Shia LaBeouf and director D.J. Caruso reworked Hitchock's “Rear Window” for the teen set with adequate results in last year's “Disturbia.” With “Eagle Eye,” the two return in an attempt streamline Francis Ford Coppola's “The Conversation” for the text message set. Call it “The CNVRS8SHN.” On second thought, don't call it at all. “Eagle Eye,” a project long-shelved by LaBeouf's number-one cheerleader Steven Spielberg, has a kernel of an interesting idea rattling around in its hollow head, but it defaults back to the clamor and clatter of the worst of summer blockbusters. With visuals that suggest the film was edited in a Jeep traveling at top speed on a cobblestone street, the film does not so much transition but spasms from one scene to the next. The only reason I sat through "

"In the new movie Eagle Eye, three characters participate in a re-creation of the famous crop duster sequence from Hitchcock’s North by Northwest. Only the plane from NbN has been replaced with an electrical tower and power lines, and it takes Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan and Anthony Azizi to perform Cary Gran’t part (Azizi also substitutes for the pilot and the farmer, I guess). Such an homage is not surprising coming from director D.J. Caruso, whose last picture, Disturbia, is currently involved in a lawsuit for being an uncredited remake of Hitch’s Rear Window. This time, fortunately, Caruso borrows enough from other films, including Hitch’s second version of The Man Who Knew Too Much

""Disturbia" has been compared to one of the great suspense films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock´s "Rear Window." Both deal with a confined character spying on neighbors and a romantic interest being involved. However, where "Rear Window" decided to confine Jimmy Stewart´s L. B. Jefferies to a wheelchair in his apartment for the duration of the film, "Disturbia" allows it´s young protagonist Kale (Shia LaBeouf) wander around relatively unteathered…unless we count the electronic bracelet attached to his ankle. After being in a horrific car crash and watching his father die in front of him, Kale withdraws into himself. He isn´t concerned with school, so much so that when a Spanish teacher uses his father in a reprimand, Kale hits the teacher in the face. Because of his outburst, the boy is sentenced to three months house arrest. If he ventures beyond a certain electronic perimeter, he has ten seconds before the cops are called. After his mother (Carrie-An ... "

"I was truly amazed by Shia LaBeouf- he has developed into a truly phenomenal actor. The suspense driven film really does keep you on your toes, and constantly reminds you of previous themes in the film (which is wonderful because you never feel like you don’t understand, or like you’ve missed/forgotten information.) it keeps you guessing, but at the same time fulfills all of your expectations- I was thrilled.I would never have expected this from a post-Disney kid. (You know it’s a good movie- when you find yourself offering advice verbally to characters, it’s truly novel... my friends we in hysterics while I was entirely sympathetic to the fictional characters onscreen.) "I wasn't expecting much of it but when I watched it I was pleasantly suprised! Shia Laboeuf's got a great potential as an action movie actor. Yes the plot has already been exploited. But because of the main character's past it's an alternative way to show the intrigue; there's a little humor and the hint of drama in the beginning brings more to the way the character is going to deal with the situation. NIce teen and grown ups movie. "

"How is it that "spout experts" and "most people" are neutral about Disturbia on this site? It's a great thriller! Great doesn't have to mean a completely original concept -- execution can make or break a flick. On paper, perhaps this is a lame remake of Hitch's Rear Window. The strong performances by all cast members and the terrific eye of director DJ Caruso make this a legitimate nail-biter. I'm buying this DVD. "

"I’ve previously expressed concerns that Google’s renewed commitment to cracking down on copyright infringement will have a disastrous impact on YouTube and GoogleVideo potential as teaching tools/living media archives. Today, via CinemaTech, comes this Wall Street Journal article (if you’re not a subscriber, try this link) about people hired by companies like Viacom to seek out and request the removal of copyright content from YouTube. The company profiled says they earn as much as $500,000 a month from each of the media companies that employ them. Most of their focus seems to be on removing music videos that have been illegally uploaded by MTV viewers, and comedy sketches illegally sourced from Comedy Central. Since many of these videos are available for legal streaming on MTV’s Overdrive and other sites, you have to wonder: since the average YouTube “pirate” "

"i honestly really liked this movie. i didn't expect it to be as nice as it was. if you're a teen, you may like the sort of love story intertwined within the plot. as well as shia's crazy/cute little asian friend. but if you're annoyed by that kind of stuff you may find yourself saying, "get to the point!" every now and then. but overall, i liked the movie and i would probably watch it again in the future. "After the vast majority of unoriginal remakes of movies made in last few years, I was hesitant to even give Disturbia a chance. Being a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock's masterful Rear Window, the idea of a teenager-oriented remake was not what I would consider ideal. And yet after coming out of the movie, I was thoroughly entertained. It's not nearly as good as the original, but it definately has it's own moments and a breakthrough performance by Shia LaBeouf.Like Rear Window, we have a man trapped in the confines of a stationary location. This time, the hero is Kale (LaBeouf), who is not trapped with broken leg, but is under house arrest for attacking his teacher. His mother (Carrie Ann Moss) takes away his TV, his computer, and all the other entertainments that really do take the punishment out of his predicament. So what is a boy to? Why, turn voyeur of course. And with a neighborhood filled with repressed desires and hidden secrets, Kale is capable of keeping his mind ... "
