"5-17-2008 I think Patrick Swayzy and Jennifer Gray were wonderful in Dirty Dancing. The rest of the cast was very good also. I have it on VHS and I am going to get it on DVD so I can watch it over and over again as I used to do. I am so sorry to hear about Patrick's illness. It always happens to the best doesn't it? I lost my father at age 58 and still miss him. I hope Patrick has some more quality life with wife Lisa and other family members. I will be very saddened if this disease takes him away so young. 5scarlett5 Arlington, Texas "

""If You Leave" by OMD - From: "Pretty in Pink""If you leave, don't leave now. Please don't take my heart away. Promise me, just one more night. Then we'll go our separate ways." What teenager can't imagine the heartbreaking, beautiful sadness of only being allowed one more night, for whatever cruel, cruel reason. Never mind the blatant contradiction of OMD, singing in one line that they won't let go of us at any price, and then quicker that you can exhale a deep, soft shuddery sigh of resignation to stay, they're stating they'll be running in the other direction the second our feet hit the pavement. Those New Wave British Synth-Pop groups are all the same. "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins - From "Against All Odds" There is somet "

""First dance. First love. The time of your life."Dirty Dancing - that quintessentially classic film and required viewing for all pre-teen girls. The film that spawned an unfortunate resurgence of interest in early 60's pop music, and a breadth of bad fashion throw-backs. A coming-of-age film, a thinly veiled sex-instructional. A film about rebellion, and innocence lost...the Curator is drooling. On the eve of its 20th anniversary, a rare, private screening has been arranged. So get your Keds on, roll up those cut-offs, and get ready to vastly change over the course of a three week summer vacation. Here comes everything you you’ve ever wanted to know about Dirty Dancing….a 3-Part analysis on the life and growth of Baby. Part 1 - Nobody Puts Baby in the Catskills We open on a happy scene, a family driving off to a long overdue summer vacation in the Catskills. Inno "

"Dirty Dancing My girlfriend, who saw precious few movies growing up, somehow managed to fall in love with this one. I had never seen it before, and neither had the spouses of many of her friends. So the women arranged a little party to subject us all to this film. Pretty much what I expected. A kind of woman's fantasy. I understand why it has such a following. The filmmakers knew what they were doing to lure the girls in. It has all of the elements, and the story editing and structure all fit into place. For the people it appeals to I mean, not for me. It had some amusing moments mostly laughable. I guess even most people who love it have to admit it's pretty much all cheesy. When it came out in the 80's it was supposed to be a period film about the 60's, but viewing it now it seems much more 80's than 60's. Rating: 4/10 "

""High School Musical" represents everything I despise about the corporate juggernaut known as Disney: Flawless teens seemingly air-brushed by nature, ready-to-market characters prepared to franchise into every imaginable direction (stage play, television series, dolls, ice show, dolls, recording contracts, etc.), and a story you can set your watch to. It's also pretty darn fun, gosh darn it. I realize that the majority of the target audience of 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year' could not give two shakes of Zac Efron's hips as to what my opinion of the film is. So this review go out to all the parents out there.

"NEW YORK (AP) — Whoopi Goldberg says her friend Patrick Swayze — who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer — is the reason why she won an Oscar for "Ghost.""When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick," Goldberg recalled Thursday on ABC daytime talk show "The View."Goldberg, who starred alongside Swayze in the 1990 film, earned a best supporting actress trophy for her portrayal of psychic Oda Mae Brown, who helps slain businessman Sam Wheat (Swayze) communicate with his grieving fiancee and solve the mystery of his murder. The 52-year-old actress-comedian said Swayze persuaded director Jerry Zucker to cast her in the film amid "some resistance." According to Goldberg, Swayze said, "I'm not making this movie unless you put Whoopi Goldberg in there."Swayze, 55, has been undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, his representative Annett Wolf said Wednesday. In a statement rel ... "IFC has signed a deal to give Blockbuster 60-day exclusive rental rights to all of their DVDs. Mike at Hacking Netflix is skeptical: “This is a smart move for Blockbuster, but is it a smart move for IFC? Blockbuster is only one distribution channel, so is it wise to limit releases to one company when Apple, Netflix, Microsoft (Xbox), Vudu, and Joost are becoming serious digital download distribution channels?” Yesterday, David Poland wondered if the next Coen Brothers movie was getting “dumped.” But there’s evidence that Focus Features is taking Burn After Reading to Cannes before its September stateside premiere. Not like a trip to France guarantees an Oscar push, but it’s something. At GreenCine Daily, David Hudson offers a stupendous, chronological recap of Berlinale ‘08. We don’t know if the

"i have a wonderful picture of all my movie ticket stubs from this year in a pile but i can’t get it transferred to my filmblog (yes, i save my ticket stubs and scrapbook them at the end of the year…i know, it’s sad really)! armed with discount movie coupons, i saw 118 movies this year at the theater and, as usual, it was really hard to narrow them down but here’s my list, for what it’s worth. some are from 2006 that i didn’t see until later. my 15 favorite movies at the theater in 2007the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert fordthe diving bell and the butterflythe lives of othersjunothe painted veilonceno country for old men< "
