"Sleep dealer is above all an interesting film. It is a truism that the best science fiction is usually that which tells a story about people, rather than whatever new gadget or idea forces it into a genre (sometimes rightfully) looked down upon as little better f tits and lazers. While Sleep Dealer treads ground that has been seen before in films like Blade Runner(1982) and The Matrix(1999) it would be unfair to compare it to either. What sleep dealer has and the above do not, are normal people. There are no Hard Boiled Deckards or Messianic Neos here, just people trying to get by, and maybe make thier world a little more bearable. As a novice director, Alex Rivera is one to watch in the future. While the Sleep Dealer is long on interesting imagery, it comes up a bit short on confidence in showing it. With a surer hand on his next feature he could be a big name in his chosen corner of the film world "

"It’s only a couple of short weeks before the 2008 Oscar nominees are announced, and the internet is abuzz with prognostications. One hotly debated topic is whether or not Wall-E can pull off a Best Picture nomination, or even a win. It would be the second animated film to be nominated in the category, after Beauty and the Beast, which got the honor before the Animated Feature prize existed. Will the stodgy old Academy seat Wall-E at the kid’s table, giving it an easy win in the animation category, or will it be allowed to play with the big boys? "Getting ready for the Sundance Film Festival can be very exciting. As we await the event’s Thursday opening, we can’t stop wondering what will be the next big thing. Will this year’s hit be the highly-anticipated Michael Cera project Paper Hearts, or will it be something that we as of yet know nothing about? It’s easy to forget, however, that oftentimes the next big thing is also the next lamest thing. "io9 has confirmed an earlier report that Ridley Scott will direct an adaptation of Brave New World, Aldous Huxley’s classic dystopian future novel. Scott says that Leonardo DiCaprio approached him about adapting the book, and it looks like he will star in the film as well. This is exciting news; not only does it herald the return to science fiction for the director of Blade Runner and Alien, it also means that Leo, who is working on a live action adaptation of Akira, has two dystopian future projects in progress. "There’s no denying that Repo! The Genetic Opera has plenty of imagination, but right now it’s still spinning around in my brain and I’m trying to decide if I like it or not. The first time I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I thought it was one of the worst movies I’d ever seen, despite Tim Curry’s stellar performance. Is Repo! destined for the same cult status? The only answer I can come up with is… maybe. Based on a 10 minute opera called “The Necro-Merchant’s Debt” by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich (who plays the Graverobber in the movie), Repo! later become a stageplay, and then they brought Saw sequel director Darren Lynn Bousman on board, and now a movie. It’s an epic opera set in the future, where a corporation called GeneCo has mastered the art of creating synthetic body organs. However, they come at a steep price, and if you don’t pay up, the company will send Repo Men after you to reclaim their property. Which of course usually results in the death of the implantee. ... "

"From one of America's most creative and inventive studios comes a picture that is packed with intimacy and surprisingly adult themes. Wall-E is a small, trash-compacting robot who has the task of clearing up a world covered in junk. Now on his own, he only has a cockroach for company and has become obsessed with a copy of the film Hello, Dolly! that he has found on a Betamax tape. The first thirty minutes Wall-E is on his own, going about his job and picking up ‘treasures’ that he takes back to his home. This part of the film features lots of slapstick comedy but also really touches the heart as we see that Wall-E has developed a very strong personality and longs to be loved. Into the flick comes a real force of nature, another robot EVE. Appearing from nowhere, this robot is sleek and heavily armed and our shy hero instantly becomes smitten. When this robot disappears Wall-E is devastated and tries to track it down. On his adventure, Wall-E’s infectious personali ... "

"After much deliberation, I have created a comprehensive list of my current 30 favorite movies ever made. I am still debating about it in my head, considering there are still so many more movies that I want to include on it. However, I widdled it down to 30. I'll reveal them periodically over the next few days, with my absolute favorites (1-10) having long explanations, and then after that getting shorter and shorter. Here's numbers 21-30 with brief explanations.21. The Shining Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece of horror is in my humble opinion the scariest film ever made. I have never seen anything that has contained as much suspense and as much sheer terror as this movie. And while I usually don't like the genre a whole lot, I love this movie.22. The 40 Year Old Virgin/Knocked Up There was a tie here, and I figured I could group them together since it's the same crew. Apatow's movies have changed comedy, and both of these films are almost beyond hila ... "
