"An Ideal Husband (1999) is an adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play. It is replete with top notch English actors (Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Minnie Driver, etc.) who just love to sink their teeth into the witty dialogue and emotional confrontations. Although advertised as a comedy, it is also serious. The plot: An unscrupulous woman blackmails an upstanding member of parliament and nearly ruins his marriage and career. The theme: We all have feet of clay, so idealizing someone is not a wise thing to do; it is better and more difficult to love people knowing their flaws.
