Synopsis
America Beyond the Color Line With Henry Louis Gates Jr.: Chicago -- Streets of Heaven is the second installment of a four-part PBS documentary series. Host Gates is looking for the new challenges faced by black Americans over 100 years since W.E.B. DuBois identified "the problem of the color line." He travels to the Robert Taylor and the Ida B. Wells housing projects, which are in the South Side of Chicago. Gates investigates what life is like for the one fifth of black Americans who live in poverty. He looks for signs of hope in the Northern city, where many Southern black Americans have sought a better life. This series was originally broadcast on PBS in February of 2004. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
