This video is composed of six, ten-minute films that were produced for the UN Beijing Conference. The key emphasis is on women talking about the importance of being involved in society's decision-making and achieving their own sense of independence, whether inside or outside of marriage. One program is about a unique and successful fish-farming project in Fiji, while two others concern the issues of domestic violence and substance abuse. The plight of Filipino women exploited as maids in Hong Kong, as well as women's health care issues in South Africa are also addressed. Viewing these six segments can help Americans and citizens all over the world recognize the challenges and triumphs of today's women.
