Directed by Paul Scardon
A Hebrew banker (Barney Bernard, of Potash and Perlmutter fame) takes occasional breaks from his wealthy clients to oversee a pawn shop in the Jewish slums on the Lower East Side. There he loans money to the poor on worthless collateral. There is also a second plot which involves the banker's son, who abandons his pregnant wife when he believes she has been unfaithful. Years later, the banker finds his daughter-in-law and his grandchild living in a tenement. The script for this film was written by Andrew de Segurola, who was more well-known as an opera singer at the Met in New York than he was as a scenarist. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
