Directed by Joel Schumacher.
Director Joel Schumacher inherited the Batman franchise from Tim Burton and began steering it in the campier direction of the Sixties television show with this third installment. First-time Batman/Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer), in his only outing as the Caped Crusader, is effectively brooding as he ponders strange dreams about his parents' death and escapes his own near-demise at the hands of Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones), a former district attorney driven insane and turned into a master criminal when a gangster throws acid in his face. Meanwhile, as sexy psychologist Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) tries to analyze and seduce both Bruce Wayne and Batman, Wayne Enterprises employee Edward Nygma (Jim Carrey) reacts badly to getting fired, using his self-invented mind-energy device to transform into the super-intelligent Riddler. The Riddler teams up with Two-Face to bring down Batman and drain the minds of Gotham City residents with his device, while Batman gets some much-needed help in the form of circus performer Dick Grayson (Chris O'Donnell), out for vengeance after being orphaned by Two-Face. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

"Here is a list of reasons why I hated this movie: * Val Kilmar sucks as Batman. * "Garish" is the word I use to describe the look of the film, like a lame-ass laser light show. * The movie is so overblown and over the top it's hard to belevie that they expected anyone to take it seriously. * We get a bunch of character development scenes that are so cliche they seem to be taken almost word for word for other movies. At no time during these scenes do we either care about the chracters, or what they are feeling or what happens to them. * There is zero suspense in the entire film. * The music, like everything else in the film, telegraphs every point so that stupidest person or youngest kid in the audince gets not only what's going on, but how they are supposed to feel about it. * The jokes are incredibly annoying, such as those told by "Dr. Chase Meridian." "Dr. Meridian" is a psycychologist so all she does is make metaphors to psychological theories. Is that funny? No. * The movie ... " [More]

"
Here's a twist: Make a Five for Five list of movies that are all in the same series. There are limited possibilities, some I've just thought of are Star Wars, the Bond films, Star Trek... I'm sure there are others. I might be able to do a Star Wars one, but in all honesty I do at least like all the films, so I really wouldn't be able to give any of them a one. So there you go, extra points for the first person to do it. Go!
Here we go: Batman 5 * Batman Begins 4 * Batman Returns 3 * Batman 2 * Batman Forever 1 * Batman & Robin My opinion of Batman, Batman Returns and Batman Begins seems to change whenever I get a chance to re-watch one them. So this is the current ranking for them. It will definitely change over time. And we'll see how this changes with the release of The Dark Knight. " [More]

"I agree with pippin06 on the vast majority of his points.I kinda see Shyamalan as the new Joel Schumacher. Shall we compare?Schumacher's Flatliners -- A fun movie with an eye for grandiosity about death and the afterlife, whatever it is. It turns into a sort of horror flick with heart as the film wears on. The characters find themselves haunted by the horrors they've commited themselves, but find redemption in the act of apology.Compare to Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense -- A really fun movie with a focus on the individual about death and the afterlife, whatever it is. In the end it's remembered as a horror film, but it has a sort of heart as well. A small child brings realization to a middle-aged man who never realized he'd actually passed away, and brings a sort of redemption to his mother who always doubted her own mother.Schumacher's The Lost Boys -- This makes for one hell of a popcorn flick and it's got a popular cast: The Two Coreys (as they are ...
