Directed by Clint Eastwood.
The Bridges Of Madison County is one of those rare examples of a movie improving on the book it was based on. Adapted from the monster, if purple-prosed, best seller by Robert James Waller, the film tells the simple story of an Iowa housewife, Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep), who meets a traveling National Geographic photographer named Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood), who has arrived in Madison County, Iowa to shoot its picturesque covered bridges. The two begin a four-day affair while her husband and children are out of town that reawakens long-lost passions and yearnings in Francesca. Kincaid, meanwhile, confronts his own roving, rootless nature; he asks Francesca to come with him, but they both know that after their brief interlude, they can never be together again. A framing story follows Francesca's children, after her death many years later, as they discover their mother's secret and take stock of their own lives. Eastwood and Streep deliver masterful, touching performances, while Eastwood's subtle direction and Richard LaGravenese's screenplay build the film into a deeply moving reflection on the choices one must make in both life and love. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

"Talk about behind The Bad Seed focuses on a seemingly perfect little girl, blond braids, sweet smile. But when a schoolmate has a tragic accident on a picnic, her mother starts to suspect evil beneath the little girl's sweetness. This is an old school suspense movie. The characters are introduced and given plenty of time to impress us (sometimes the wrong way like the grating voice of the land lady). Though I wanted the length to be a bit shorter, this film has to be seen for the double whammy of the ending. Be sure to watch the credits. I left this film laughing in disbelief as well as feeling sort of dirty inside. The Messengers starts out as a tight little PG-13 horror movie. The family moves from the city to an isolated farm house in order to escape some trouble their teenaged daughter caused. Kristen Stewart ("Jumper") stars and pulls off the tortured teen with enough aplomb to make this cliched character seem to have depth. The ghosts are creepy, especially wi ... " [More]

"How about a few stephen king books/short stories?(some original book/short story titles where changed when made in film)movies based on S. King books i liked are : Misery, Green Mile ,Stand by me and Hearts in AtlantisAmy tan books that was made into a movie :the Joy Luck Club; this movie was great!Books that i read and did not like the film version:Bridges of Madison CountyDid any one see Perfume : the Story of a Murderer (2006)? Was not highly impressed with this movie, some scenes were just outlandish, and there was barely any scare/suspense factor in this movie that i hoped it to be or as advertised to be;I am curious about checking out the book this film was based on though,it seems quite an interesting tale. A far better film than it really has any right to be, Clint Eastwood's adaptation of Robert James Waller's bestselling novel converts a breathlessly overwrought piece of writing into a moving melodrama in the classic mold. Though it starts badly and comes to a halt every time it returns to its modern day framing device, whenever the film concentrates on the illicit romance of Eastwood and Streep -- which is most of the film -- it serves as a model of understated direction and unimpeachable performances. An unlikely pairing of acting styles, Eastwood and Streep perfectly embody their unlikely lovers. Playing a woman realizing for the first time that she might not be resigned to a life of underappreciated boredom, Streep strikes the right note of nervousness and ecstasy. But unlike its most immediate model, Brief Encounter, since it dwells equally on both lovers, the film turns on Eastwood's performance. Here he transforms his character from a figure of fantasy into a fully-realized man who slowly recognizes his own unspoken loneliness. Though the film's final act drags on well past its emotional climax, as a director Eastwood -- working form a script by Richard LaGravenese -- elsewhere avoids indulgence and always stays away from overt sentimentality, allowing his film to work as a heartbreaking story of hard choices and unrealized dreams. ~ Keith Phipps, All Movie Guide
