Directed by Peter Medak
New York cop Jack Grimaldi (Gary Oldman) has a nice home, a stunning wife Natalie (Annabella Sciorra), and a sweet, if stupid mistress, Sheri (Juliette Lewis). Jack also earns extra money by betraying mob witnesses to Mafia-boss Don Falcone (Roy Scheider). Assigned to guard the viciously sexy Russian-born hit woman, Mona Demarkov (Lena Olin), Jack is almost instantly seduced and allows Mona to escape. Falcone orders Jack to find and kill Mona, and threatens to murder him if he fails. Mona offers to pay Jack to help her eliminate Falcone and fake her own death. Several plot twists and turns later, Jack is left with his life in shambles. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

"Gary Oldman is a pimp. Rarely do I see a film where I don't like his performance. Sure, he's in a few stinkers, but his PERFORMANCE is always top notch. This is no exception. I kept thinking of Angel Heart while I was watching this - another great neo-noir film starring Mickey Rourke. If neo-noir is your cup of tea, DEFINITELY give this disc a spin. " [More]

"I picked up a library book this weekend and while admittedly, I have made only minimal progress through it, the opening preface sounds thoroughly intriguing; ( I don't know why I had not thought of 'Romeo is Bleeding ' before, for I think it fantastic...) The opening sentence seems to set the mood and tone and I will post more from the book after I get my collective anxieties and dark places in order.Mean Streets and Raging Bulls: the legacy of Film Noir in Conte " [More]

"Ah, a sad day indeed Dr_Gor.Please don't forget Roy Scheider in Romeo is Bleeding ( although his part is not the largest, he does it with some real menace, the film is really superb, a fine example of Neo Noir, with great, great parts by everyone in it, especially Roy, Gary Oldman, Juliette Lewis, and Lena Olin )He has a part in Klute and in Outside Man ( I have not seen Outside Man, but it sounds terrific ) that are worth noting.I second your beer and raise you a shot " [More]
