The neo-realist film that I enjoy most. About a man who spends all of his money on a bicycle to get to his job that he desperatly needs, then has it stolen from him. Sad, and uplifiting at the same time.

Taking place over 4 decades, this film captures what life is like for one poor family thoughout the great leap forward and cultural revolution in China. Heartbreaking, emotional, phenomenal. Banned in China when it was released, and the director was also banned from making movies for two years. Then went on to make Hero and House of Flying Daggers.
