Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is the live-action, feature film adaptation of the cult comic book and the popular animated television show. After prolonged exposure to radiation, four teenage turtles--Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello--have mutated into ninjas and have begun living in the sewers of a large city. Under the guidance of a ninja master Splinter the Rat and television reporter April, the Turtles embark on a mission to run crime out of the city and battle the warlord Shredder. The Turtles have been designed by Jim Henson Productions and effortlessly fit into the live-action surroundings. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Movie Guide

"I remember seeing the trailer for this film in the theater, and I nearly pooped my pants I was so excited. I could not wait to see this film...and it did not disappoint. I was a huge fan of the original Mirage comic book series, and I was so glad this was more inspired by that then the children's cartoon. I still put this DVD in from time to time. Ah...happy days. "Obviously this one will span many an era depending on how old you are. I'm not going to ask for a certain type of film either.Mine:1. The Adventures of Mark Twain. This is forever part of my childhood memories. Love it, love it, love it. If you haven't seen it I'll forgive you so long as you rectify that immediately - it's been on DVD since January 2006, so you can easily get ahold of it now. 2. Labyrinth. Another one permanently imbedded in my memory banks. This, along with Legend, were my first "fantasy" movies and can more-than-likely be blamed for turning me into a nerd. 3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was my generation's Pokemon. Everyone had action figures, posters, Halloween costumes, etc. I'll refrain from including #2 but I have the same soft spot for it as well.4. The Addams Family. I loved this when I was a kid and I still have to watch it when it comes on telelvision.5. Clerks. Not exactly "childhood" fare but this was my first "grown-up" m ... " [More]

"
I just got a sudden flash of inspiration....I think I've got it! And then I double checked for a 2007 release, and, unbelievably, it's happening. Is it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze?!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is RIGHT! (The first one.) If you haven't seen the trailer for 2007 and you're a fan of this franchise you really should--I came very close to wetting my pants at its coolness. But then again...I'm kind of an annimation fiend. Great Guess Pippin! What's next? " [More]

lost interest.
This live-action film version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is more like the satiric black-and-white comic book by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird from the early '80s than the wildly popular syndicated cartoon show, which broadened the humor from the original's dark tone. However, the bleak pseudo-noir production design and turtle body suits didn't keep away the audience; it became a box-office hit for New Line Cinema, becoming one of the top-grossing films of the year. The story concerns the origin of the turtles and their teaming with reporter April O'Neil to beat the Foot Clan along with some flashbacks of Master Splinter's past, but the plot is really just an excuse to bring the quick surfer-speak and ninja action to the big screen for Turtles fans. The work of Jim Henson Productions, the latex animatronic costumes were well-constructed and worn by stunt men doling out the turtle power in some effective action sequences. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie was followed by a few sequels, a video game, and numerous other media before Turtlemania was quickly overshadowed by the coming popularity of the Power Rangers. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
