Synopsis
A comedy of errors, with many lives hanging in the balance, takes place in a run-down French inn in this black comedy. Irene (Juliette Binoche) is a French secret service agent with a background in the European intelligence community. Years ago, one of Irene friends and colleagues, an American agent named Elliot (Nick Nolte), seemingly vanished into thin air, but on September 5, 2001, he contacts and asks her a favor -- he's trying to get in touch with his two teenage children, and he'd like Irene to help him find them. Irene agrees to help Elliot, who now lives in isolation in a small French village, but she soon discovers the kids mix like oil and water; Orlando (Sara Forestier) was raised in France and follows the local customs, while David (Tom Riley) has spent most of his life in the States and makes no secret of his dislike of Europe and Europeans. As Irene, Elliot, Orlando and David come together at a rattletrap Parisian hotel, William Pound (John Turturro), an American hit man, begins trailing them, looking for the elusive Elliot in hopes of silencing him for good. And it turns out there are some reasons to keep him quiet -- cash strapped Elliot has some information on a possible terrorist attack that could hit America in a few days, and he's willing to sell it to the highest bidder. Quelques Jours en Septembre (aka A Few Days In September) was the first directorial project for veteran screenwriter Santiago Amigorena. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
