Alfons (Zbigniew Cybulski) is a young army captain who meets two women of Moorish ancestry at what appears to be a deserted inn near Madrid. They tell Alfons he is the descendant of a noble family and that he must undergo a series of challenging missions to prove himself. A magician tries to take his soul, and he is visited by ghosts near the mountains of Madrid. "This blog entry is part of my “movie year countdown”. To read more about that check out my first Spout filmblog entry.Rekopis znaleziony w Saragossie (The Saragossa Manuscript)I didn't realize this beforehand, but this movie is essentially a gimmick movie in my opinion. I don't know too much about the source material, and maybe if I did I would have found this movie a lot more impressive.The gimmick is something that I feel like could have been potentially more interesting to me, but just seemed a bit wasted and absurd. Basically what ends up happening is that we get a story inside of a story inside of a story, etc. The movie introduces a story with characters, and at one point one of the characters will tell a story. The movie then cuts to that story and at some point one of the characters in that story will start telling a story. Then the movie cuts to that story. Sometimes the movie will go back to the people telling the story and sometimes it will con ... " [More]

"Here’s the dilemma. I have a list of well over three thousand movies I want to see saved on IMDB. I have a subscription to Netflix and recently every time I return a DVD it has been an extremely arduous task to make the decision as to which movie I should see next. In an effort to narrow down my choices and make the process of choosing slightly less overwhelming I have devised a system, almost a bit of a game for me. Here’s how it goes.For my first film selection, I have narrowed the options down to only films that were released in the year 2006. Then after I have watched that movie, my next selection would have to be a film released in 2005. Then I would see a film from 2004, then 2003, etc. The process of deciding is still laborious, but actually quite a bit more exciting.
