Rolling Stones was based on a play by
Edgar Selwyn, best known as one of the co-founders (with Samuel Goldfish of the Goldwyn Studios. The film was described as a "farcical drama," which was less oxymoronic than it sounded. As hero Dave Fulton (
Owen Moore) and heroine Norma Noggs (
Marguerite Courtot) billed and cooed at one another, the supporting players kept the film afloat in the roles of various transients, bindlestiffs and ne'er-do-wells. Some of the biggest laughs were generated by Alan Hale Sr. as Jerry Braden, an easygoing indigent who joins a group of like-minded people on a cross-country tour. Rolling Stones was directed by
Dell Henderson, fresh from the Keystone comedy mills. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
