Filmed in 1969, Ray Dennis Steckler's Body Fever didn't get a release until 1971-then had to wait another ten years for a worthwhile distribution via videocassette. The inimitable Steckler serves up a cheesy but effective detective flick, set in the sleazy world of drug trafficking. Hard-boiled private eye Charlie Smith (played by Steckler himself-take that, Orson Welles!) tries to find a woman (Carolyn Brandt) who has double-crossed a drug czar. Smith owes the girl a favor, and doesn't want to see her fitted for a cement overcoat. Even those of you who can't see anything in the Ray Dennis Steckler ouevre will enjoy this throwback to the great days of "film noir". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
