Directed by Caroline Suh.
As the teenage politicians at one of the most prestigious publics schools in the United States begin campaigning for the position of student body president, filmmaker Caroline Suh draws parallels between high school politics and their real world counterpart. It seems that the only difference between these burgeoning politicians and the folks vying for a position in the White House is that after a long day of tireless campaigning and endless photo ops, these youngsters have to do their homework, prepare for their SATs, and send out college applications. As the election begins to unfold, it quickly becomes apparent that these teenagers possess a keen understanding of how everything from platforms and strategy to charisma and hairstyle factor into a successful campaign. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"The Sheffield DocFest has put out a preview of their 2008 lineup. The festival launched a number of sidebars last year based on theme––Green, Sports, Music, etc––and this year, they’re adding two more: Kinky Docs, described as “a celebration of sex and its representation in documentary”; and “Regime Change,” timed to capitalize on the US presidential election, which will have just ended the day before Sheffield begins (assuming there’s no need for a recount). Familiar titles on the latter sidebar include Full Battle Battle, Bulletproof Salesman and the recently-acquired Front Runners. Highlights from the preview after the jump. This Kinky Docs premiere sounds amazing: WorldRevolution (dir. Klaus Hundsbichler) UK PremiereWorldRevolution is the story of Stefan Weber and his cult Viennese rock band Drahdiwarbel, their rise to fame, Austrian politics and Stefan’s pet chicken. The Green panel will showcase Sundance hit Flow: For the Love of Water, as well as Paul Devlin’s Blast!, in wh ... " [More]

"FrontRunners is a timely campaign film, but it has nothing to do with the battle for the White House. The film follows four students through the rigors of running for school president of Stuyvesant High School, one of the most competitive public schools in the country. Director Caroline Suh was fortunate enough to capture some delightful comic moments, especially when the drive to succeed mixes with teenage awkwardness. I spoke to Suh and producer Erika Frankel about hanging out with teenagers and the racial politics of a high school presidental campaign.
