Directed by Steve Buscemi.
With Interview, his fourth directorial outing, American actor-cum-director Steve Buscemi reworks a 2003 feature by the ill-fated Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh. Van Gogh originally intended to shoot an English-language version of the picture himself, but Buscemi signed on after the director's late 2004 assassination. The story concerns Pierre Peders (Buscemi) a steel-tough political correspondent infuriated by his editor's decision to hogtie him to a tabloid-level story about the seemingly vapid actress and blonde paparazzi goddess Katya (Sienna Miller). Pierre's chagrin doubles given the news of a searing White House scandal that is just breaking; instead of covering the piece, Peders must visit a posh Manhattan restaurant and interview Katya - someone he instantly detests. The one-on-one is more of a disaster than either could have predicted, but by some strange twist of fate, Pierre is injured and courted back to Katya's apartment. Once there, liquor is downed, coke is consumed, minor violence erupts, and the two begin to dance a pas-de-deux - attempting, not so subtly, to out-maneuver one another psychologically, as dark secrets and long-hidden vulnerabilities emerge. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

"By Tricia Olszewski During the course of the compact, 83-minute Interview, variations on the line “Do you realize that you're unpleasant?” are spoken approximately 216 times. Possibly, some of those sentiments are actually just bouncing around your brain, a natural consequence of watching two actors exercise their chops so strenuously that you're the one who'll feel exhausted afterward. Steve Buscemi's Interview is a remake of a 2003 film of the same name by slain Dutch director Theo van Gogh. Buscemi, who adapted the original script with first-time writer David Schechter, also plays Pierre Peders, a political journalist who has been relegated to doing a celebrity profile for his magazine. His subject is Katya (Sienna Miller), a starlet with a Sex and the City-like show on TV and loads of mass-appeal movies in the can. Though Pierre is itching to get out of it so he can cover a breaking Washington scandal, he's scheduled to meet Katya a restaur ... " [More]

"If you're in the habit of visiting websites, you've probably seen ads for Interview, Steve Buscemi's remake of a Dutch film by the same name, which stars Sienna Miller and which opens in limited release this Friday. Buscemi's Interview is the first in a series of three films (the others are to be directed by Stanley Tucci and John Turturro), in tribute to the director of the original Interview, Theo Van Gogh. In 2004, Van Gogh was murdered by a Muslim extremist, who was acting in response to Submission: Part One, a ten minute film about the oppression of women under Islam, made by Van Gogh in collaboration with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. That film is embedded above. I haven't seen Van Gogh's Interview, but I've just returned from a press screening of Buscemi's, and in terms of style, content, weight and intent, it's about as far away from Submission as you can get. Van Gogh has become something of a martyr since his death; a famed free-speech advocate in life, his body was found with a 5-pa ... " [More]
