Directed by Zack Godshall.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a fledgling insurance adjustor is forced to view the world from a perspective that he never imagined. Turner Stull was in need of employment when he traveled to New Orleans to work alongside his uncle Stully at the Bridge Catastrophe Service. The Bridge Catastrophe Service is an opportunistic company that processes insurance claims from hurricane damaged homes, and Turner is a young man who has yet to discover his path in life. Of course Turner's uncle Stully is a seasoned claim adjustor who knows the routine inside and out, and it isn't long before the eager nephew learns that the only way to keep profits high is to move fast and avoid emotional attachment. At first this sounds easy enough, but upon dealing with desperate people who have lost everything Turner quickly discovers just how difficult a job insurance adjusting can be. One day, in a moment of weakness, the inexperienced Turner agrees to help a man named Nixon search for his missing dog. In exchange for Turner's help, Nixon agrees to help his new friend with some insurance claims. Later, as the pair attempts to navigate the storm-damaged city, Turner begins to realize just what a profound impact the experience is having on his life. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"BUTTERKNIFE 6: Bedroom BullyAdd to My Profile | More Videos This episode of Butterknife co-stars Barlow Jacobs, co-writer and star of one of my favorite festival films of 2007, Low and Behold. Barlow also appears in New Orleans Mon Amour, one of the films I’m most looking forward to at SXSW. "BUTTERKNIFE promo: Best Trip EverAdd to My Profile | More Videos It’s time to present the second in our exclusive series of shorts, produced by members of the cast and crew of Joe Swanberg’s Butterknife. The short embedded above is called Best Trip Ever, and it’s the brainchild of Barlow Jacobs, the writer/star of Low and Behold. Barlow appears in the short (that’s him on the right) as his character from Butterknife. Watch, enjoy, and check back next Monday for the next short. "And now, for your weekly Butterknife update. Joe Swanberg and friends are off shooting new episodes this week, but Joe sent along some stills to tide us over. Above, you’ll surely recognize the one and only Ronnie Bronstein; after the jump, you’ll find stills featuring guest stars Barlow Jacobs (writer/star of what was probably my favorite film at Sundance 2007, Low and Behold), and Michael Tully (director of Cocaine Angel and Silver Jew). Tomorrow, we’ll continue our?? interview series with a conversation between Joe and Ronnie. And as always, you can and should check out the Butterknife page on Spout. "New indie production/distribution company Elephant Eye is teaming with Palm Pictures to produce Craig Zobel’s follow-up to the Gotham-lauded Great World of Sound. Zobel co-wrote Turkey in the Straw with Barlow Jacobs, who wrote and starred in one of my favorite underseen films of the year, Low and Behold. The Hollywood Reporter says the project is expected to have a higher budget than Sound and to “include more A-list stars.” Following in the illustrious footsteps of Clint Eastwood and, um, Ben Affleck, Martin Scorsese’s next project will be based on a Dennis Lehane novel–this time, it’s Shutter Island. Scorsese will once again direct lil’ buddy Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead. Sidney Lumet will receive a Career Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association at their annual awards gala in January. Marc Graser reports on how the Southern California wildfires are impacting Hollywood life. You’ll take some comfort in knowing that although flames threatened to shut down ... " [More]

"Kamp Katrina (which opened a series of nationwide screenings last night at MoMA and continues a week-long New York stint at the Pioneer Theater starting tonight) joins Low and Behold in the budding genre of micro-dramas dedicated to dismantling the clusterfuck that is post-Katrina New Orleans one personal story at a time. Whereas Low and Behold is a character drama that draws strength from documentary elements, Kamp Katrina is a documentary with an uncommon feel for character and an incredible narrative focus. Both stand in contrast to something self-consciously “definitive” like Spike Lee’s When the Levees Broke, which despite its undeniable significance as a historical document, can’t possibly rival micro-budgeted projects like Low and Behold and Kamp Katrina in terms of microscopic attention to detail. Kamp focuses on Ms. Pearl, a casually charitable resident of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward who opens a tent city in her backyard to house displaced residents while they “get back ... " [More]
